Digital Input/Output (DI/DO): DI supports 24Vdc/120Vac/240Vac and is isolated by optocouplers. DO is divided into two types: Solid State and Electromechanical Relay. For relays DO that drive large inductive loads (such as motor contactors), it is necessary to check whether the RC absorption circuit (Snuber) on the FTA has failed, otherwise it is highly likely to burn out the contacts.
2. FTA (Field Termination Assembly) wiring specifications
All on-site signals must be connected through FTA. FTA and IOP are connected through a dedicated cable of up to 50 meters in length.
Wiring type: FTA provides two types of terminals: compression and screw, supporting a maximum wire diameter of 14 AWG.
Isolation and Explosion proof: For situations that require Class 1 and Division 2 explosion protection, FTA with the "I.S. Galvanic Isolation" label must be selected. These FTAs are equipped with intrinsic safety isolation barriers, and during installation, it is necessary to ensure that the grounding busbar of the FTA is reliably connected to the cabinet grounding system, otherwise the explosion-proof protection capability will be lost.
Remote I/O: If fiber optic remote I/O (1 kilometer or 8 kilometer options) is used on site, the Fiber Power Budget of the IOLE (I/O Link Expander) module needs to be checked. The budget for the 1-kilometer option is 5.5 dB, and for the 8-kilometer option it is 10.0 dB. If the fiber bending radius is too small, it will cause excessive light attenuation and communication interruption.

UCN Network Communication and NIM Troubleshooting
APM communicates with other devices of the TDC 3000X system through the Universal Control Network (UCN). UCN is a 5 Mbps carrier token bus network using redundant coaxial cables (RG-6 and RG-11).
1. Replacement of Network Interface Module (NIM)
NIM is the bridge between LCN (Local Control Network) and UCN. It not only forwards alarms and database loading instructions, but also is responsible for synchronously broadcasting the time of LCN to UCN. All event timestamps of APM depend on the time provided by NIM.
Troubleshooting logic: If the APM node on UCN reports "time synchronization failure", first check the redundancy status of NIM. NIM supports 1:1 redundancy, and in the event of a primary NIM failure, the backup NIM will automatically take over, but it may cause a brief timestamp jump. When replacing the NIM card, it is necessary to ensure that the node address (Pinning) of the new card is exactly the same as that of the old card.
Physical layer diagnosis: UCN uses Tap (tap) to connect devices. Need to check if the terminal resistance of Tap matches. If there is a large amount of packet loss or "token loss" alarm in the network, use an oscilloscope to check the waveform of the coaxial cable and investigate whether there is impedance mismatch or circulating interference caused by multiple grounding points in the cable shielding layer.
Power system and system battery maintenance
The power supply system of APM directly affects the availability of the system, mainly divided into standard type and AC only type.
1. Standard power system (with battery backup)
The standard system provides a 24Vdc output of 20A and is equipped with a built-in battery charger.
Troubleshooting: The battery pack inside the system cabinet is 48Vdc (consisting of 4 12V gel batteries connected in series) with a capacity of 12Ah. The battery life is approximately 5 years at 20 ℃. If the panel reports "battery failure" or "abnormal charging", the terminal voltage of the battery pack needs to be measured. If APM cannot maintain power supply when the mains power is interrupted, it indicates that the battery has aged and must be replaced as a whole. Mixing old and new batteries is strictly prohibited.
Memory backup: The APMM board is equipped with three 1.2V nickel cadmium (Ni Cd) batteries for storing CMOS memory data in case of power failure. If the system loses power for a long time and then re sends the telegram "Database Lost", it is necessary to check whether the voltage of this battery is lower than 3.0V. Note that replacing this battery must be done while the system is live, otherwise APM configuration data will be lost.
2. AC Only power supply system
This system is designed specifically for remote I/O small systems equipped with UPS, providing 8A or 16A output.
Troubleshooting note: The AC Only system does not include rechargeable batteries, and its memory backup uses 3 AA alkaline batteries. This alkaline battery is non rechargeable and begins to consume once the system is powered off. It must be replaced immediately after use, otherwise memory will be lost during the next power outage.
On site determination of soft and hard faults
APM has a comprehensive self diagnostic function, and faults are divided into hard failure (HF) and soft failure (SF).
Hard Failure (HF): typically refers to irreparable hardware damage (such as CPU crashes, memory chip damage) that can cause APM to go offline or switch to backup.
Soft Fault (SF): usually refers to verification errors, communication timeouts, or abnormal I/O channels. At this time, APM may still be running, but some functions are limited.
