FY groove type: Similar to FYS, but with slightly different blade handling, suitable for slightly larger cutting depths or precision machining applications with certain requirements for blade strength.
L/R (left and right hand) and neutral groove type: For working conditions that require contour machining or groove cutting, the left or right hand groove type should be selected according to the tool path. Neutral groove type (such as MESI) is suitable for inner hole machining or scenarios that require universality.
Practical tip: When you encounter surface scratches caused by chip entanglement, prioritize checking whether the chip groove matches the current feed rate. If the feed rate is too low, even FYS groove types may not be able to effectively break chips. At this time, the feed rate should be appropriately increased or a sharper groove type should be replaced.
Recommended cutting parameters and material strategies
The scope of application of AC1030U covers a wide range of materials from soft steel to high-temperature alloys. The following are practical suggestions based on official data:
Soft steel/carbon steel: The recommended cutting speed (Vc) is between 165-500 SFM, and the feed rate (f) is 0.0008-0.006 IPR. Within this range, the coating advantage of AC1030U can effectively suppress chip tumors and achieve stable surface quality.
Stainless steel (such as 304): Vc is recommended to be 165-500 SFM, and f is 0.0008-0.004 IPR. Stainless steel processing is the strength of AC1030U. The case shows that when processing 304 stainless steel valve bodies, using VCGT220RFY-AC1030U blades, the tool life is 1.5 times that of competitors (1500 pieces vs 1000 pieces). The key is that its anti adhesion coating effectively solves the common problems of "knife biting" and surface tearing in stainless steel processing.
Cast iron: Vc can reach up to 160-650 SFM, f is 0.0008-0.004 IPR. For intermittent cutting of cast iron, AC1030U's strong and tough matrix provides reliable anti chipping protection.
Nonferrous metals (such as brass): Vc can reach 230-1000 SFM, f is 0.002-0.008 IPR. The wear resistance advantage of AC1030U is obvious at high speeds.
Difficult to process materials (such as high-temperature alloys): Vc is recommended to be 100-200 SFM, and f is 0.0008-0.004 IPR. Careful selection of groove type is necessary to ensure blade strength.
Case study: When processing 1047 steel stator shaft, using VCGT220.5RFX-AC1030U blade, with a line speed of 640 SFM and a feed rate of 0.0048 IPR, a tool life of 140 pieces was achieved, while competitors only had 70 pieces. This is due to the excellent heat resistance and wear resistance of AC1030U at high speeds.
Common problems and troubleshooting
Poor surface finish with vibration patterns:
Check: Is the blade securely installed? Is the overhang of the knife handle too long?
Countermeasure: Try using FYS groove type and reduce the feed rate appropriately, while increasing the cutting speed to avoid the formation of chip nodules. The smooth coating of AC1030U itself can improve chip removal and reduce vibration patterns.
Slight blade breakage:
Check: Is the cutting depth too small, causing the cutting edge to be squeezed? Is the cooling sufficient?
Countermeasure: Ensure that the minimum cutting depth is not less than one-third of the radius of the blade tip arc. For AC1030U, its strong and tough substrate allows it to work at extremely shallow cutting depths, but if the cutting edge frequently breaks, FY groove type with edge passivation treatment or slightly reducing the cutting speed should be considered.
Chip wrapping:
Check: Is the feed rate too low? Is the chip breaker worn?
Countermeasure: Increasing the feed rate is the most direct way to solve winding. If the surface requirements cannot be improved due to limitations, a sharper FYS groove should be replaced and the coolant should be accurately sprayed into the cutting area.
