AB 1402 Series Line Synchronisation Modules

Product Overview: The 1402 LSM is used in 3-phase alternators, cogeneration systems, or in scenarios where two three-phase systems need to be synchronised. It provides auto-synchronisation, load-sharing, and power system monitoring, and communicates with the PLC-5 via the 1771 backplane. It measures system parameters, provides control and error signals for synchronisation and load sharing, and monitors a wide range of system data such as current, voltage and power.


Installation Guidelines: The 1771 I/O should be installed in a dry, dust free, 1771 I/O enclosure away from heat sources and strong EMFs, at an operating temperature of 0 - 60°C. A suitable enclosure should be selected to ensure that there is sufficient space and that it is correctly earthed. Use the 1771-WC swing arm for voltage and load sharing lines, and the 8-position fixed terminal block for current lines, taking care to observe wiring practices and prevent electrostatic discharge. Correct selection of PT and CT transformers, wiring according to the type of system, requirements for PT and CT connections for different wiring methods, low impedance neutral connections.


Operating characteristics: six operating modes, configurable via ‘Block Transfer Write’, the configuration data affects the scaling of the module functions and monitoring data. The synchronisation function is based on the discrete outputs of the PLC-5 and has several synchronisation modes, the behaviour of the module varies in the different modes. A wide range of power parameters can be monitored with different data update rates. The load sharing function works on configured parameters and adjusts the generator output power. The user can control the module to perform self-testing, clearing counters, etc. through block transfer data, and the module will automatically perform self-testing at regular intervals.


PLC interface: exchanges data with the PLC backplane via discrete I/O and block transfer, occupies two I/O slots, addresses are assigned to lower numbered slots PLC-5 provides discrete output control signals and LSM returns discrete input signals to indicate module status and error messages. Large amounts of data can be exchanged via block transfers, which are divided into multiple ‘files’, with different files having specific sizes and structures .6200 version 4.4 or later I/O configuration software is available to assist in configuring and monitoring the module.


Application Information: Operating modes include monitoring only, monitoring with load sharing, synchronisation and monitoring, synchronisation and monitoring with load sharing, controlled by the discrete outputs of the PLC - 5 . The data is exchanged with the PLC processor via a block transfer mechanism in a special data format that requires a specific method of handling. Two block transfer writes are required to configure the LSM, and the configuration status can be confirmed by a block transfer read.The discrete input/output control of the LSM works in conjunction with the PLC-5 for synchronisation, load sharing, etc. The LSM is controlled by the discrete inputs/outputs of the PLC-5. The example ladder diagrams in the appendix show how to program the interface with the LSM, the use of the relevant data files and the access to the block transfer data.


Application Cases

Multi-equipment co-operation scenarios in industrial automated production lines: In large-scale industrial automated production lines, there are often multiple three-phase equipments that need to operate in co-operation, for example, in the automated assembly plant of an automobile manufacturing factory, many equipments, such as motors, robots, etc., are supplied with power from three-phase systems. 1402 series line synchronisation modules ensure the synchronous operation of the power supply systems of these equipments by measuring parameters such as voltage, frequency and phase difference of two three-phase systems and providing control and error signals to achieve synchronous control of engine governors. 


The 1402 Series Line Synchronisation Module ensures that the power supply systems of these machines are synchronised by measuring the voltage, frequency and phase difference between the two three-phase systems and providing control and error signals for synchronised control of the motor governor. It can accurately match the running rhythm of each equipment, avoiding production delays or product quality problems caused by unsynchronised equipment, and improving the production efficiency and product qualification rate of the whole production line. For example, when the running speed of a certain equipment fluctuates due to load changes, the module will adjust its power supply parameters in time to keep it in sync with other equipment to ensure the smooth running of the production process .


Power distribution and management scenarios in cogeneration systems: In cogeneration systems, the 1402 series line synchronisation module plays a crucial role. The module monitors the power of each part of the system in real time, and through accurate measurement and analysis of the alternator output power and the total load of the system, it achieves a reasonable distribution of the load. Based on the measured power data, the module sends out appropriate control signals to adjust the generator output to ensure that it matches the load demand of the system, so that the power generation equipment can operate efficiently under different working conditions. This not only improves energy utilisation and reduces energy wastage, but also enhances system stability and ensures a reliable supply of power.
