As the most potential renewable energy, biomass energy has become the fourth largest energy after coal, oil and natural gas, and the development potential is very large. The promotion and application of biomass power generation technology will be an effective technical way to achieve the goal of "double carbon", which will play a significant role in promoting the large-scale and efficient and clean utilization of biomass resources in our country.
Biomass refers to various organisms formed through photosynthesis, including all plants, animals and microorganisms. Biomass energy is the energy form of solar energy stored in biomass in the form of chemical energy, that is, energy with biomass as a carrier. China's biomass resources are mainly all kinds of residues and wastes (passive biomass resources), mainly including agricultural waste, forestry waste, livestock and poultry manure, domestic waste, sewage sludge and so on. For example, Hunan is located in the subtropical region and has abundant biomass energy resources. The main types of biomass that can be used for power generation include agricultural and forestry biomass power generation, garbage power generation and biogas power generation, etc. It is expected that the amount of power generation resources can reach 20.3 million tons per year, which has a good foundation for the development of biomass energy and garbage power generation.
Since the implementation of the Renewable Energy Law in 2006, the utilization of biomass energy in China has mainly focused on the application of electricity production. China's biomass power generation mainly includes agricultural and forestry biomass power generation, waste incineration power generation, pyrolysis gasification power generation and biogas power generation. Taking agricultural and forestry biomass as an example, when used for power generation, its carbon emission intensity is only equivalent to 1.8%, 2.1% and 3.8% of coal, oil and gas. Therefore, reasonable and full use of biomass energy is an important way to reduce regional fossil energy consumption, improve energy utilization structure, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
According to the National Energy Administration's "2021 National Renewable energy Power Development Monitoring and Evaluation Report" shows that by the end of 2021, the cumulative installed capacity of renewable energy power generation in the country is 1.063 billion kilowatts, of which 37.98 million kilowatts of biomass power generation. In 2021, the country's renewable energy generation reached 2.48 trillion KWH, accounting for 29.7% of the total power generation, of which biomass power generation 163.7 billion KWH, accounting for 2.0% of the total power generation, accounting for 6.6% of renewable energy generation.
The development and utilization of biomass energy can not only realize the harmless, reduction and resource utilization of all kinds of organic waste, and then improve the ecological environment, but also help optimize the energy structure, and achieve the coordination of carbon peak, carbon neutrality and environmental pollution control.
