In TN and TT grounding systems, residual current monitoring is an important means to ensure personal safety and reliable equipment operation. Traditional residual current protection devices are mostly designed for AC residual current, but in frequency converters UPS、 In scenarios where battery chargers, six pulse rectifiers, and other devices are widely used, complex waveforms of smooth DC residual current, pulsed DC residual current, and superimposed DC components may occur in the system. Ordinary AC type residual current monitors are difficult to reliably identify such fault currents and are prone to missed or false alarms. BENDER RCMA475LY, as an AC/DC sensitive residual current monitor, is designed to solve this problem. It meets Type B requirements and is capable of monitoring AC, DC, and pulsed DC residual currents. It is suitable for grounding systems with DC fault currents or residual currents continuously greater than zero.
Product positioning and core features
RCMA475LY is an AC/DC sensitive residual current monitor used in TN and TT systems. Its core positioning is not to replace ordinary residual current protection switches, but to continuously monitor the residual current of critical circuits and issue an alarm when the residual current exceeds the set response value. The device integrates a measuring current transformer with an aperture of 18 mm, which can directly allow the phase and N wires of the monitored circuit to pass through. Due to the use of the principle of measuring current transformers, the monitoring results are almost unaffected by the load current and system nominal voltage, thus maintaining stability even in situations with large load changes.
The device provides two response values: the alarm response value I Δ n1 can be set between 30 mA and 500 mA, applicable frequency range 0... 700 Hz; the pre alarm response value I Δ n2 can be set to 50% or 100% of I Δ n1. This means that operation and maintenance personnel can receive warnings before the remaining current reaches the main alarm threshold, thereby proactively investigating issues such as insulation aging, equipment moisture, and filter capacitor leakage. The response delay can be adjusted between 0... 10 seconds, and the pre alarm delay can be selected as 0 seconds or 1 second, which helps to suppress false alarms caused by instantaneous interference.
RCMA475LY is equipped with two independent adjustable alarm relays, each with a conversion contact that can be set to normally open or normally closed operation. The device also has a fault memory function, and alarm information will be stored, which must be reset through the RESET button. There is a combination TEST/RESET button on the panel. Short press for less than 1 second to execute RESET, long press for more than 2 seconds to execute TEST. Simultaneously supporting the connection of external TEST and RESET buttons, facilitating remote operation after installation inside the cabinet. The LED bar chart displays the percentage of the current measurement value relative to the set response value from 0 to 100%. External measuring instruments can also be connected through M+and M - terminals to achieve 0 to 100% display. The equipment adopts independent power supply, with a transparent cover that can be sealed, suitable for industrial use on site.
Working principle and alarm logic
RCMA475LY continuously collects the sum of all conductor current vectors of the monitored circuit through internal measurement current transformers. In an ideal situation, the sum of phase and N-line current vectors is zero; When insulation failure or residual current occurs, the vector sum is no longer zero, and the transformer outputs a measurement signal proportional to the residual current. The device compares the signal with the set response value. When the remaining current exceeds I Δ n1 and reaches the set response delay, the alarm LED lights up and the alarm relay acts. If the remaining current only reaches 50% of I Δ n1, the pre alarm LED will flash, and the pre alarm relay can operate according to the settings to achieve two-level warning.
The alarm information has fault memory. Even if the residual current subsequently disappears, the alarm state will remain until manually pressing RESET or resetting through an external reset terminal. This design helps to capture intermittent ground faults and avoid loss of fault information. The TEST button is used to simulate alarm testing and verify whether the LED, relay, and internal circuit are normal. It should be noted that the TEST function is a functional test and cannot replace the actual residual current verification. The LED bar chart displays the percentage of measured values in real-time, making it easier for on-site personnel to determine whether the remaining current is approaching the threshold or has exceeded it. The Power ON LED stays on during device operation; When the measurement range is exceeded, the LED flashes, indicating that the current remaining current has exceeded the displayed or set range.
