GE Multilin EPM 9900P Power Quality Instrument Debugging and Fault Diagnosis Guide

Overview of Hardware Architecture and Interfaces

The EPM 9900P features a sturdy metal casing, equipped with a color touchscreen display, and supports panel installation or rapid deployment through a pre wired instrument box (Multilin Meter Enclosure).

EPM 9900P provides rich communication options and supports multi protocol concurrency:

2 x Ethernet (RJ45) independent MAC/IP, supporting Modbus TCP/IP, DNP 3.0, IEC 61850 (including GOOSE)

2 x RS485 (optional, occupying Slot 1) Modbus RTU or DNP 3.0

USB virtual COM port (front panel) for local configuration and firmware upgrade

Each Ethernet port supports up to 32 Modbus TCP/IP sockets, and port control can disable unnecessary services (such as Telnet, FTP) to improve security.

8-way high-speed digital status input: can be configured as wet (external voltage, up to 150V DC) or dry (internal 24V provided), used to capture switch changes, with a resolution of 100 μ s.

Attention: The external I/O module needs to be equipped with a separate power supply (PL9000PSIO0000) and mounting bracket (PL9000MBIO0000), and the EPM 9900P itself does not supply power to it.

3.1 High precision measurement and energy management

EPM 9900P adopts Constant Calibration ™  Technology, automatically self calibrating every 10 seconds to ensure long-term stability. Support:

4-quadrant energy metering: forward/reverse active, reactive, and apparent energy.

Time of use billing (TOU): Permanent calendar, supports multiple electricity price periods and custom parameters.

Transformer and line loss compensation: iron loss, copper loss, and total station loss.

CT/PT compensation: Correct the ratio and angle differences of current and voltage transformers.

Peak demand recording: Simultaneously recorded with power factor, reactive power, etc., for easy evaluation of capacitor bank switching.

On site verification technique: Using "Test Mode" can test the accuracy of watt hour and dead time without affecting the stored electrical energy. After the test is completed, the "Energy Preset" function can be used to rewrite the missing power values into the accumulator, achieving seamless replacement of the instrument.
