OCTOPUS equipment adopts a flat installation method and requires 4 M5 screws to be fixed on a flat surface. After drilling the installation holes, fix the equipment on the substrate.
Attention to heat dissipation:
Characteristics A and F: When the ambient temperature exceeds 45 ° C, the equipment must be installed in a cabinet or restricted access area.
Feature F: To ensure that the bottom plate temperature is below 90 ° C, one of the following measures can be taken:
The power supply voltage shall not be less than 20V
The total PoE output is limited to 47W or less
The ambient temperature is limited to below 65 ° C
Installed on a 0.15m ² metal plate (without any other heat source)
3.2 Grounding Requirements
Feature A: Use M3 grounding screw (functional grounding), it is recommended to install a toothed washer to ensure conductivity.
Feature F/N: Use M4 grounding screw (protective grounding) and also require a toothed washer.
The grounding wire diameter shall not be less than the power wire diameter, at least 0.75mm ² (AWG18).
The grounding wire is connected first and disconnected last.
Chapter 4 EMC Ferrite Installation (Special for Feature F)
Feature F model (OS24-080900T5T5TFFBHH) comes with a ferrite magnetic ring, which must be installed on the power input line to ensure EMC compliance:
Thread the power cord through the ferrite three times (repeatedly circling).
Place the ferrite as close as possible to the power input end of the equipment (maximum distance of 50cm).
Lock the ferrite (open/close with the accompanying key).
Purpose: To suppress high-frequency conducted interference on power lines and meet EN 55032 Class A and ship EMC requirements.
Chapter 5: Data Ports and PoE Power Supply
5.1 M12 D-code port characteristics
Connector: 4-pin M12 D-code, with conductivity between the housing and the metal casing of the device.
Support: 10/100BASE-TX, Auto negotiation, Auto crossover, Auto polarity, up to 100m (Cat5e shielded cable).
Pin definitions: 1=TD+, 2=RD+, 3=TD -, 4=RD - (see Table 3), consistent with the standard M12 D-code.
5.2 PoE+power supply (OS24)
Ports 2-9 of OS24 support PoE+(IEEE 802.3at), with a maximum of 30W per port and a total power budget of 61.6W (total output power limit can be configured through management software).
Power supply method: Phantom power supply (signal line pairs simultaneously transmit data and power), Alternative A (1/2 and 3/6 line pairs)
Pin PoE polarity: 1/3=positive Vpse, 2/4=negative Vpse (see Table 4)
Port 1 is a non PoE port: In a ring network structure, it is recommended to connect the PoE port to the non PoE port to avoid potential difference issues.
PoE status LED:
Green constant light=supplying power to PD
Green slow flash (1 time/cycle)=PoE total power exceeds budget
Green flash (3 times/cycle)=PoE disabled in management

Chapter 6 LED Status Diagnosis
6.1 System Status LED
Meaning of LED color
P1/P2 green corresponds to normal power input
FAULT red on=signal contact disconnected (alarm state), off=normal
RM green/yellow ring network manager status (green=active and redundant port closed, yellow=active and redundant port open, flashing=ring network configuration error)
6.2 Port Status LED
Each M12 port is equipped with a dual color LED:
Green constant light=link valid
Green slow flashing (1 time/cycle)=Stand by mode
Green flash (3 times/cycle)=port managed to be closed
Yellow flashing=data transmission and reception
Chapter 7 Initial Configuration and Security Baseline
7.1 IP Address Allocation
DHCP is enabled by default at the factory. If a static IP is required, it can be configured through the following methods:
V. 24 serial port (M12 interface, 9600bps, 8N1) connected to VT100 terminal
HiDiscovery Protocol (via Industrial HiVision tool)
BOOTP/DHCP Option 82
ACA11-M12 AutoConfiguration Adapter
Default voucher:
Read only: user/public
Read and write: admin/private
The password must be changed for the first login (at least 8 characters, including uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters).
7.2 Other default parameters
Ring network redundancy: disabled
Port link status monitoring (signal contact): disabled
All ports: Auto negotiation enabled
RSTP: Enable
V. 24 baud rate: 9600
Chapter 8 Environmental Temperature Monitoring and Special Measurement Methods
OCTOPUS provides a calibration method for determining the actual maximum allowable ambient temperature:
Install the equipment at the designated location and turn it on, waiting for the maximum operating temperature to be reached.
Measure the actual ambient temperature (reference value) at a distance of 5cm from the device.
Read the internal temperature displayed by CLI/GUI.
Calculate the temperature difference (internal temperature - reference ambient temperature).
Add this temperature difference to the maximum ambient temperature specified in the manual to obtain the actual maximum allowable ambient temperature for the installation location.
Reason: The internal temperature of the equipment is higher than the ambient temperature (depending on the installation method, heat dissipation conditions, and adjacent equipment thermal radiation), and this method can accurately evaluate whether the on-site installation meets thermal specifications.
