Overview of MVH series capacitors

The MVH series capacitors are high-performance surface mount aluminum electrolytic capacitors designed to meet the demands of demanding industrial and automotive electronic applications. The core advantage of this series is its ability to operate stably at temperatures up to+125 ° C, while maintaining the ease of reflow soldering for surface mount components. This makes the MVH series an ideal choice for power circuits, filtering, and energy storage applications in high-temperature environments, such as engine control units (ECUs), LED light drivers, and industrial high-temperature equipment.

In addition to its high temperature resistance, the MVH series also has excellent environmental adaptability. Except for specific specifications with rated voltages ranging from 63V to 450V, this series of capacitors have solvent resistance and can withstand common cleaning agents in the production process, simplifying the manufacturing process of PCBA and improving long-term reliability.


Core specifications and technical parameters

The design of the MVH series strictly follows industry standards, and its core parameters are as follows:

2.1 Basic electrical parameters

Working temperature range: -40 ° C to+125 ° C, covering various extreme environments from outdoor equipment in cold regions to high-temperature engine compartments.

Rated voltage and capacitance range:

Voltage range: 10 VDC to 450 VDC, covering a wide range of needs from low-voltage logic circuits to high-voltage power conversion.

Capacitance range: 3.3 μ F to 4700 μ F, providing a wide range of capacitance options.

Capacitor tolerance: The standard tolerance is ± 20% (M-level), tested at+20 ° C and 120Hz.

Leakage current:

10-100V specification: Maximum leakage current I=0.03CV or 4 μ A, take the larger of the two (measured after applying pressure for 2 minutes at+20 ° C).

160-450V specification: Maximum leakage current I=0.04CV+100 μ A (measured after applying pressure for 2 minutes at+20 ° C).

2.2 Loss tangent and high-frequency characteristics

The manual provides detailed loss tangent (Tan δ/DF) values, which are the maximum allowable values at+20 ° C and 120Hz. For capacitors with different voltages and housing sizes, their DF values are different. For example, the DF value of small-sized (F60-J10) products with 10V is 0.24, while the DF value of high-voltage (400-450V) products (K14-M22) is 0.24. An important correction is that when the nominal capacitance exceeds 1000 μ F, the DF value needs to increase by 0.02 for every 1000 μ F increase.

Equivalent series resistance (ESR) is a key indicator for measuring the performance of capacitors, especially in high-frequency switching power supplies. The data table provides the maximum ESR values for different specifications at 100kHz. For example, the ESR of 10V/100 μ F (H63 package) is as low as 46m Ω, while the ESR of small capacity high-voltage capacitors such as 450V/3.3 μ F (K16 package) is 120.57 Ω. Users can choose a model with appropriate ESR according to the requirements of the circuit for ripple and efficiency.

2.3 Low temperature characteristics

At low temperatures, the impedance of electrolytic capacitors will significantly increase. The MVH series has clear specifications for this: at -25 ° C or -40 ° C, the ratio of its impedance (Z) to the impedance at+20 ° C must be less than the specified value. For example, for a 10V capacitor, its impedance value at -40 ° C does not exceed 10 times that at+20 ° C; For high-voltage products between 400-450V, the ratio is controlled within 4 times. This ensures the stability of the system during low-temperature start-up.

Lifespan and reliability

3.1 Endurance of Load

The rated lifespan of the MVH series varies depending on the housing code and voltage, ranging from 1000 hours to 5000 hours (with rated DC voltage applied at+125 ° C). After the test is completed, capacitors restored to+20 ° C must meet the following conditions:

Capacitor change rate: not exceeding ± 30% of the initial value.

Loss tangent (DF): not exceeding ± 300% of the initial specified value.

Leakage current: not exceeding the initial specified value.

For example, the small-sized product (F60-H63) with a voltage range of 10-100V has a lifespan of 1000 hours, while the medium-sized product (K14-M22) with the same voltage range has a lifespan of up to 5000 hours.

3.2 Shelf Life

When capacitors are left without voltage at+125 ° C for a period of time, their performance also needs to meet strict standards. After restoring to+20 ° C and reapplying the rated voltage for 30 minutes (within 24 to 48 hours), the changes in capacitance and DF are required to be the same as the load life test. For products with a voltage of 10-50V, the leakage current must meet the initial specified value; For 63-450V products, the leakage current cannot exceed 500% of the initial specified value.


Physical dimensions and PCB design

The MVH series adopts a vertical chip design and offers multiple standard housing sizes to accommodate different space and capacity requirements. From the smallest F60 (6.3 × 5.7mm) to the largest M22 (18 × 21.5mm), there are clear size specifications. The manual provides a detailed list of the cylinder diameter (OD), length (LA), and key PCB pad layout dimensions corresponding to each shell code. For example, for large-sized products, it is recommended to use a 4-terminal (VD) package that includes two additional "false pins" to enhance mechanical stability. Designers can refer to the "PCB Land Pattern Dimensions" table in the manual to accurately design the pad layout, ensuring welding quality and mechanical strength.
