In modern process industries, the stability, flexibility, and intelligence level of control systems directly affect production safety, product quality, and operational efficiency. The C300 controller in the Honeywell Expert PKS platform, as the core control unit of the system, provides solid technical support for various process control applications with its powerful processing capabilities, deterministic execution environment, and highly integrated engineering tools.
Product positioning and platform integration
The C300 controller is an important component of the Expert Process Knowledge System, responsible for key tasks such as executing control strategies, batch operations, managing I/O interfaces, and running custom programs. Its design philosophy revolves around "certainty" and "flexibility", enabling multiple control requirements such as continuous control, logical control, sequential control, model control, and batch control to be implemented on a unified hardware platform.
Through deep integration with the Expert PKS platform, the C300 controller achieves seamless data flow from on-site equipment to operational management, building an integrated automation solution.
Control Execution Environment: Certainty, Flexibility, and Scalability
1. Overview of Control Execution Environment
The C300 controller adopts Honeywell's field validated control execution environment. CEE is a high-performance real-time running engine responsible for scheduling and executing user configured control policies. It supports multiple execution cycles and can meet a wide range of application requirements from millisecond level fast scanning to second level conventional control, especially suitable for scenarios with extremely high response speed requirements such as turbine control and compressor anti surge control.
2. Function block library
CEE has a rich library of built-in functional blocks, covering the following control types:
Continuous control: PID control, ratio control, split range control, etc
Logic control: with or without logic, timer, counter, etc
Sequential control: stepper control, state machine, etc
Model Control: Model based Control Algorithm
Batch processing control: compliant with ISA S88.01 standard, supporting four levels of process models
Each functional block is embedded with predefined features such as alarm settings, algorithm selection, and maintenance statistics. Users only need to configure parameters to enable them, without the need to develop underlying logic from scratch, greatly improving engineering efficiency.
3. Control module and sequence control module
Users combine functional blocks through "soft wiring" to form control modules or sequential control modules to achieve specific control tasks. This modular design not only facilitates reuse, but also makes the organizational structure of the control strategy clearer, making it easier to maintain and expand.
Redundant architecture and high availability
1. Hardware redundancy
The C300 controller supports full redundancy configuration, and users only need to add one identical hardware module to achieve redundancy without the need for additional configuration of control strategies. When the main controller fails, the system automatically switches to the backup controller without disturbance to ensure control continuity.
2. Online migration
Under redundant deployment, CEE supports the "online migration" function, allowing software version upgrades to be completed without downtime, significantly improving system availability and maintenance convenience.
3. High reliability design
The C300 controller adopts high-density components and optimized heat dissipation structure. The vertical installation method not only saves cabinet space, but also improves heat flow distribution, reduces hotspot generation, and enhances module life and reliability.

Communication and Network Integration
1. Control the network
The C300 controller is based on Honeywell's patented fault-tolerant Ethernet technology, which has high availability and resistance to network attacks. The control firewall mechanism ensures that only data related to process control is allowed to enter the controller, effectively isolating network threats.
2. I/O network
The controller is connected to the Series C I/O and Process Manager I/O series through a dedicated redundant I/O communication network. Each controller supports two I/O networks, and I/O modules can also be configured redundantly. User applications do not need to perceive underlying changes.
3. Time synchronization
C300 supports the high-precision time protocol of IEEE 1588 standard and can directly connect to the secondary network to achieve precise time synchronization of all controllers in the system. Simultaneously supporting automatic daylight saving time adjustment without the need for manual intervention.
On site equipment integration
1. Smart device access
The C300 controller achieves transparent integration of intelligent devices such as FOUNDATION Fieldbus, HART, and Profibus through the fieldbus interface module and Profibus gateway module. The data and control blocks of on-site equipment can be seamlessly integrated with the C300 control strategy, allowing users to fully utilize the rich diagnostic information provided by intelligent devices.
