HONEYWELL Modutrol IV Series Motor Technology Analysis: Performance, Selection, and Application Guide

In building automation and HVAC systems, the reliability and accuracy of actuators directly affect the overall operational efficiency and control quality of the system. The Modutrol IV series motor launched by Honeywell, as the fourth generation product of its classic Modutrol series, has become an ideal choice for controlling dampers and valves in industrial and commercial buildings due to its sturdy structure, flexible configuration, and excellent torque output capability. The Modutrol IV series models adopt a systematic coding method, which facilitates users to quickly identify product characteristics based on application needs. Taking the standard model as an example, its coding rules are as follows:

Control type: 61 represents Series 60 floating-point control.

Power level:

6: Low torque, 35 lb in

8: High torque, 150 lb in (standard timing 60 seconds/160 °)

9: Ultra high torque, 300 lb in (timed for 2 or 4 minutes)

Output driver form:

4: Dual output shaft, non spring reset

1: Single output shaft, non spring reset

Based on the above rules, the main models include:

2. Control mode

This series adopts floating-point control mode, which realizes three states of "forward drive hold reverse drive" through three wire wiring, suitable for proportional control actuator systems, and can accurately adjust the opening or position of the air door or valve.

3. Travel adjustment

The travel can be adjusted on-site within the range of 90 ° to 160 °, and the adjustment method is completed through the cam inside the wiring chamber. It should be noted that stroke adjustment will change the starting position of the shaft, but the midpoint of the stroke remains unchanged.
