HONEYWELL Series 61 and Series 62 Modutrol IV ™  Motors

In building automation and HVAC systems, the reliability, control accuracy, and installation flexibility of actuators directly affect the operational efficiency and maintenance costs of the system. Honeywell's Modutrol IV series 61 and 62 motors, as high-end representatives in its actuator product line, are widely used in commercial and industrial building air door and valve control scenarios due to their floating point control capability, spring reset option, built-in feedback potentiometer, and robust mechanical structure. Product positioning and technological advantages

The Modutrol IV series 61 and 62 motors belong to a three wire floating point control actuator, suitable for use with SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) or floating point output controllers. Its core advantages are reflected in the following aspects:

Dual series parallel design: Series 61 is a standard floating-point control motor, while Series 62 adds an electrically isolated feedback potentiometer on this basis, which can provide axis position indication and support slave control (slaving) Series 90 motor or external control circuit rebalancing.

Spring reset and non reset options: Some models have built-in spring reset mechanisms, which can automatically restore the motor to the preset normal position in case of power failure, suitable for safety first application scenarios.

NEMA 3 protection level: The integrated junction box with liquid tight conduit joints can provide reliable rain and dust protection, meeting outdoor installation requirements.

Dual output shaft design: All models come standard with dual output shafts (slotted and tapped at both ends), supporting the drive of valve linkages from the power or auxiliary end, suitable for flexible configuration of normally open or normally closed valves.

On site adjustable stroke: The stroke can be adjusted on-site within the range of 90 ° to 160 °, adapting to the stroke requirements of different dampers and valves, and the midpoint of the stroke remains unchanged during the adjustment process.

Model Naming Rules and Selection Guidelines

The Modutrol IV series 61 and 62 motors adopt a systematic model coding method, allowing users to quickly identify product characteristics based on application needs. Taking the standard model as an example, its naming convention is as follows:

M: Modutrol motor

61/62:61 is floating-point control, 62 is floating-point control with feedback potentiometer

8/9:8 indicates 150 lb in non spring reset or 60 lb in spring reset; 9 represents 300 lb in non spring reset

2/4/5:2 indicates dual output shafts and normally closed spring reset; 4 represents non spring reset; 5 represents normally closed spring reset

A/B/C/D/E/F: Number and configuration of auxiliary switches, A is 0 auxiliary switches, B is 1, C is 2, D/E/F corresponds to different configuration combinations

For example, M6184 represents Series 61, 150 lb in torque, non spring reset, dual output shaft. M6284 represents Series 62, 150 lb in torque, non spring reset, dual output shaft.


Feedback mechanism and potentiometer characteristics (Series 62)

The core differentiation advantage of Series 62 motors lies in their built-in electrical isolation feedback potentiometer, which provides axis position signals for slave control or external circuit rebalancing. According to different models, feedback characteristics are divided into the following categories:

1. Linear feedback model (suffix - F)

Typical models: M6274F1009-F, M6284F1070-F, M6294F1009-F, etc

Feedback characteristics: Linear resistance between terminals T-G is 0-10k Ω, linear resistance between T-Y is 10-0k Ω, and constant resistance between Y-G is 10k Ω

Applicable scenarios: Analog control systems that require linear position feedback

2. Nonlinear feedback model (suffix - S)

Typical models: M6284D1000-S, M6284A1030-S, M6285C1001-S, etc

Feedback characteristic: The resistance curve is non-linear and suitable for slave control with Series 90 motors

Special configuration: Some models (such as M6284A1071-S) have built-in sensitivity adjustment function, which can optimize control response

3. Slave control resistor configuration

When Series 62 is used as the main motor to control multiple Series 90 slave motors, corresponding shunt resistors need to be configured according to the number of slaves.
