New benchmark for industrial automation safety: perfect integration of Pepperl+Fuchs H-System and Schneider Electric Tricon CX

The cooperation between Schneider Electric and Pepperl+Fuchs is not overnight, but based on more than 30 years of technological trust and market integration. As a new generation safety system launched by Schneider Electric, the Tricon CX inherits the high reliability tradition of the Triconex series while placing higher demands on the compactness, heat dissipation efficiency, and installation convenience of the I/O subsystem. Especially in industries such as oil, natural gas, and chemical where explosive gases exist, how to equip Tricon CX with intrinsic safety barriers that not only save space but also meet the highest safety standards has become a key challenge in engineering implementation. Pepperl+Fuchs' H-System was born in this context. It is not only a hardware product, but also a fully tested, globally certified, and officially recognized "preferred solution" by Schneider Electric.


Redefine Terminal Board Technology and H-System Architecture

Traditional DCS or ESD systems often face problems such as complex wiring, large space occupation, and difficult heat dissipation when connecting intrinsically safe field devices. Pepperl+Fuchs' H-System has completely changed this situation through a series of innovative designs.

1. Ultimate space saving and high-density design

In modern industrial sites where every inch of land is precious, the cost of space is extremely high. One of the core advantages of H-System is its ultra narrow modular design. According to the documentation, the width of its HiC module is only 12.5 millimeters, which is currently one of the highest density intrinsic safety isolation barrier solutions on the market. This compact design means that more signal channels can be accommodated in terminal cabinets of the same area, significantly reducing the number and footprint of control cabinets and lowering infrastructure costs.

2. Unique plug-in installation mechanism

H-System has introduced the installation concept of "Plug&Lock". HiC modules can be directly plugged into customized terminal boards without the need for any tools or additional wiring operations. This design not only greatly accelerates the installation speed of the project, but also reduces the risk of human wiring errors. When a module needs maintenance or replacement, engineers can quickly unplug the faulty module and insert a new one without dismantling the on-site wiring, minimizing the mean time to repair (MTTR).

3. Customized terminal board solution

Pepperl+Fuchs provides highly customized terminal boards for the special interface requirements of the Tricon CX system. These terminal boards integrate intrinsically safe wiring terminals and are equipped with Schneider Electric specific ELCO or D-Sub plug connectors. By using pre wired system cables from the Tricon system, this design achieves seamless connection from on-site terminals to I/O cards, not only maximizing cabinet layout but also simplifying spare parts management and planning through standardized design.

4. Low power consumption and heat dissipation optimization

High density installation often comes with heat dissipation pressure. The H-System module adopts advanced low-power design, which effectively reduces heat dissipation while ensuring signal isolation and transmission performance. This not only helps to maintain a low temperature environment inside the control cabinet, extend the service life of electronic components, but also reduces the dependence on cabinet air conditioning or cooling fans, in line with the modern industrial concept of green energy conservation.
