It supports distributed intelligence processing, where detectors and modules perform onboard signal analysis and transmit processed data rather than raw analog values. The card automatically discovers connected devices, assigns electronic addresses without manual DIP switches, and generates a physical topology map of the loop wiring, including T tap branches. Real time diagnostic functions detect missing devices, address conflicts, location changes, and wiring faults, providing detailed troubleshooting information to maintenance personnel.

Functional Description

The 3-SDDC2CF operates as the communication master for its two Signature loops, continuously polling all connected devices to update their status and detect alarm or fault conditions. Each device on the loop contains its own microprocessor that performs onboard analysis of sensor signals, making decisions based on algorithms downloaded from the control card. The control card maintains a database of device types, locations, and sensitivity settings, and can reconfigure devices remotely through the programming software. The module provides independent loop protection features including overcurrent protection, short circuit isolation, and ground fault detection. When a loop fault occurs, the Signature technology allows communication to continue with devices on either side of the break through loop isolation functionality.

Installation and Programming

The 3-SDDC2CF inserts into any available slot in the EST3 chassis and connects to the backplane for power and inter card communication. Field wiring for the Signature loops connects to pluggable terminals on the front of the card, simplifying installation and future maintenance. Programming is performed using Edwards EST3 programming software, which allows engineers to assign device types, configure input output relationships, and establish cause and effect logic.
