B&R 3AI775.6 Analog Input Module
The B&R 3AI775.6 is a high-density analog input module for the X20 distributed I/O system. It provides 8 differential analog input channels, each configurable independently for voltage (±10V, 0–10V, ±5V) or current (0–20mA, 4–20mA). The module features 16‑bit resolution and is suitable for precision measurement of sensors, pressure transmitters, and temperature signals (with external transmitters).
Input Specifications
Number of channels: 8 (differential or single-ended with common ground).
Voltage ranges: ±10V, 0–10V, ±5V, 0–5V (input impedance > 1 MΩ).
Current ranges: 0–20mA, 4–20mA (input impedance 250 Ω).
Resolution: 16 bits (0.003% of full scale).
Accuracy: ±0.1% of full scale at 25°C, ±0.2% over temperature range.
Conversion time: 2 ms per channel (sequential); parallel mode available for 4 channels at 1 ms.
Diagnostics and Protection
Each channel provides wire break detection (for 4–20mA), overrange/underrange monitoring, and short-circuit detection (voltage mode). The module includes 2500 Vrms isolation between field side and backplane. Inputs are protected against 30V DC continuous overvoltage. A green LED per channel indicates active signal; a red LED indicates fault.
Power and Bus
The module draws 100 mA from the X2X bus (+5V) and requires an external 24V DC (US) for the analog circuits (30 mA typical). Power dissipation: 2 W. The module is hot-swappable and automatically configured by the X20 CPU. Communication: X2X Link with cycle times from 1 ms to 10 ms.
Configuration
Using B&R Automation Studio (version 4.8+), each channel’s type, scaling, filter (50 Hz, 60 Hz, or 1 kHz), and diagnostic limits can be set. The module supports “store and forward” of configuration, allowing replacement without reprogramming. Process data is mapped as 16-bit integer (0–65535 for unipolar, -32768 to +32767 for bipolar).
Environmental and Mechanical
Dimensions: 28 mm width x 99 mm height x 80 mm depth. Weight: 100 g. Mounting: DIN rail. Operating temperature: -25°C to +60°C (horizontal); derate to +50°C for vertical. Storage: -40°C to +85°C. Humidity: 5% to 95% non-condensing. Protection class: IP20. Vibration: 5 g (10–150 Hz). Shock: 30 g.
Wiring and Termination
The module uses a 12-pin spring-clamp terminal block (included) accepting 0.2–1.5 mm² wire. For current loops, use shielded twisted pair; connect shield to the module’s ground clamp. The terminal block is removable for easy maintenance. Optional: B&R X20TB12 terminal block with push-in technology.
Typical Applications
Used in process control (flow, level, pressure monitoring), packaging machinery (force sensors), and HVAC systems. The 8-channel density saves space in control cabinets.
