Bonfiglioli 300 series reducer installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting guide

In the full lifecycle management of industrial transmission equipment, the technical content of installation, commissioning, and daily maintenance is often no less than the selection and calculation in the early stage. A gearbox that has undergone precise calculations during the selection stage may have its service life shortened by more than 50% if there are deviations in installation or negligence in maintenance, which may even cause serious safety accidents. The Bonfiglioli 300 series, as a widely used reducer product line in heavy-duty industrial scenarios, has strict technical specifications for installation, operation, and maintenance.

This article is based on the technical core of the official "Installation, Operation, and Maintenance Manual" for the Bonfiglioli 300 series (including the 300M series). It provides a systematic technical operation guide for the installation difficulties, maintenance blind spots, and fault handling scenarios that field engineers often encounter in their actual work, helping equipment operate safely, reliably, and with a long lifespan.

Safety prerequisite: Understanding the symbol system and responsibility boundaries in the manual

Before carrying out any technical operations, understanding the safety warning system in the manual is the first line of defense to protect personnel and equipment. The 300 series manual adopts a graded warning symbol system:

Danger Warning: Indicates a dangerous situation that may result in serious personal injury if ignored. This type of operation must be carried out by professionally trained personnel, and a complete safety plan must be developed before execution.

Caution: Indicates the operational steps that require specific preventive measures to be taken to avoid personal injury and equipment economic losses.

Important: Label key technical information, ignoring such prompts may result in decreased device performance or premature failure.

ATEX specific identification: highlighted in yellow, only applicable to equipment that complies with the ATEX 2014/34/EU directive. This type of operation must be carried out by qualified personnel who have received specialized training in safety operations in explosion-proof areas.

Manufacturer's responsibility boundary: The manual clearly states that the manufacturer shall not be held responsible in the following situations - installation in violation of local safety regulations, disregard or incorrect application of manual instructions, improper electrical/hydraulic supply, unauthorized modifications, or work carried out by unqualified personnel. For on-site engineers, this means that any deviation from manual specifications may void the equipment warranty.


Receiving and unboxing: an essential inspection process that cannot be skipped

2.1 Arrival inspection

After the equipment arrives at the site, the following checks must be completed before signing for it:

Verify delivery content: Confirm that the equipment model and specifications are completely consistent with the purchase order.

Appearance inspection: Check for any obvious physical damage during transportation. If any discrepancies or damages are found, they should be reported immediately to the Bonfiglioli distributor.

2.2 Packaging Types and Storage Conditions

The 300 series adopts different packaging according to transportation methods:

Tray+heat shrink film packaging: suitable for land transportation, not rain proof, must be stored indoors in a non humid environment.

Wooden crate packaging: suitable for sea or air transportation.

Hard indicators for storage environment:

Temperature range: Execute according to the temperature limit table in the manual

Relative humidity: not exceeding 80%

Storage period: no more than 2 years under standard packaging


Operation specifications for Long Term Stock option

This is an extremely important content in the manual but often overlooked by on-site personnel. When the device is not installed immediately after delivery (more than 6 months after delivery), Bonfiglioli offers the Long Term Stock (LTS) option. Understanding the operating procedures of this option is directly related to whether the equipment can be put into normal operation after long-term storage.

3.1 Identification of LTS Options

The device with LTS option has a prominent prompt on the outer wall of its container (BBOX wooden box or wooden box) that reads "OPEN ONLY BEFORE THE INSTALLATION". The equipment is packaged in VpCI (gas-phase corrosion inhibitor) bags inside, and a special identification label is affixed outside the bag. The LTS option code will also be marked on the equipment nameplate.

Key principle: Users must not open LTS containers before preparing for installation. This requirement is to ensure the integrity of the VpCI protected environment.

3.2 LTS Service Cycle

Standard LTS service period: up to 2 years

After expiration, you can apply for renewal: each renewal is for 2 years

Renewal operation: Inspection and recovery must be performed by Bonfiglioli authorized service center
