The Sanyo Denki RS1A10AA RTA is a high-performance AC servo motor belonging to the SANMOTION R series, engineered for demanding precision motion control applications in industrial automation. This motor operates on a 200 to 230 Volt AC three-phase power supply and draws a rated current of 26.1 Amperes, delivering substantial torque output within a compact frame size. The RS1A10AA RTA incorporates advanced magnetic circuit design to achieve high torque density, enabling rapid acceleration and precise positioning for machine tools, robotics, packaging machinery, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and material handling systems.

Motor Design and Construction

The SANMOTION R series motors feature a 10-pole rotor and 12-slot stator configuration that minimizes cogging torque and electromagnetic vibration, resulting in exceptionally smooth rotation even at very low speeds. This characteristic is essential for direct drive applications where torque ripple would otherwise degrade positioning accuracy. The motor housing is constructed from high-strength aluminum alloy, providing efficient heat dissipation to maintain stable operation under continuous duty cycles. The RS1A10AA RTA is equipped with a sinusoidal commutation encoder feedback system that ensures precise rotor position detection for field-oriented control algorithms executed by the servo drive. The standard IP65 protection rating seals the motor against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets, making it suitable for use in machine tool environments with coolant exposure and washdown areas in food packaging lines.


Performance Characteristics

The motor achieves a rated speed of 2000 revolutions per minute, with maximum speed capabilities extending significantly higher depending on the specific drive and voltage conditions. The torque versus speed characteristic remains flat up to the rated speed, providing full torque availability throughout the continuous operating range. The motor exhibits low rotor inertia, enabling high acceleration rates up to several thousand radians per second squared, which translates into short positioning times for pick and place operations and indexing tables. Encoder and Feedback System

For applications requiring absolute position retention through power cycles, an optional absolute encoder variant is available that uses battery-backed memory to store position information. Cable sets are available in various lengths to accommodate different machine layouts, with drag chain rated cables offered for moving cable applications. The motor mount flange conforms to industry standards, ensuring compatibility with common mounting brackets and gearboxes. The installation manual specifies proper grounding procedures to prevent electrical noise interference with the encoder signals, along with recommended torque values for mounting screws and shaft attachments.

Applications and Maintenance

Typical applications for the RS1A10AA RTA include CNC machine tool axes, industrial robot joints, high-speed pick and place robots, printing press drives, and automated guided vehicle propulsion systems. The motor is designed for maintenance-free operation under normal conditions, with sealed bearings that are lubricated for life. The encoder does not require cleaning or calibration.
