Deployment Mode and Operation Architecture Selection
AP1301 supports three deployment modes, which engineers can flexibly choose based on network size and management requirements.
1. Cluster mode (default)
Suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises (up to 255 APs per cluster). After the first startup, the AP elects the Primary VM, and other APs automatically synchronize the configuration. This mode does not require a separate controller, is plug and play, and supports role-based management (Admin, Viewer, Guest Operator). Front desk personnel can independently manage guest accounts.
Configuration steps:
Connect the first AP to the network and access its IP through HTTPS to enter the wizard.
Set SSID, security policy, VLAN, etc.
After the subsequent AP goes online, the main AP will be automatically discovered and the configuration will be pulled (the main AP IP needs to be specified on the same layer one or two network or through DHCP Option 43).
Zero Touch Deployment (ZTP): In conjunction with Alcatel Lucent OXO Connect R2, APs can obtain boot configurations from local OXO servers, further simplifying the setup process.
2. OmniVista 2500 Local Network Management
Suitable for medium to large enterprises (supporting up to 4000 APs). The OmniVista 2500 provides graphical RF planning, heat maps, alerts, performance monitoring, and advanced features such as L3 roaming, passenger flow analysis, and Rogue AP positioning. When deploying, the AP needs to be configured in "controller" mode and the OmniVista server IP needs to be specified.
3. OmniVista Cirrus Cloud Management
Targeting multi branch and chain scenarios, centralized operation and maintenance are achieved through public cloud without the need for local servers. The AP has built-in DPI and application recognition, and the cloud platform can provide network analysis, intelligent alerts, and policy push. When selecting the cloud mode, ensure that the AP can access the Internet (HTTPS port) and register with the Cirrus tenant.
4. Mixed mode: AP1301 can support both cluster and cloud management (only for single mode operation), but the switching mode needs to be restored to factory settings, and engineers should plan in advance.
QoS and Unified Communication Optimization
To ensure the quality of voice and video services, AP1301 provides refined QoS policies:
Supports 802.11e WMM and U-APSD (power-saving mode), which can assign different access categories (AC_VO, AC_VI, AC_SE, AC_SK) to different applications (such as VoIP, video conferencing, desktop sharing).
Application aware scanning: During channel scanning, the AP avoids scanning during real-time traffic bursts to reduce jitter.
Bandwidth control: Up and down speed limits can be set for each SSID to prevent individual clients from occupying all bandwidth.
Roaming optimization: Supports 802.11k (RF resource management), 802.11v (BSS migration), and 802.11r (fast roaming). In scenarios such as warehouses and hospitals that require voice roaming, all three should be enabled simultaneously, and the roaming threshold (such as RSSI -75 dBm) should be lowered to reduce sticky clients.
Reference for troubleshooting common engineering problems
Phenomenon 1: AP cannot go online (cluster mode)
Check if the DHCP server has assigned an IP and if Option 43 is correct (if it spans three layers) or if the AP is in the same broadcast domain.
Check if the main AP is normal (can be determined by the LED indicator light: green constant light indicates normal).
Confirm that the AP software version is consistent with the main AP (version inconsistency may result in joining failure).
Phenomenon 2: Wireless speed far below the nominal value
Check if the terminal supports Wi Fi 6. If it is only AC or N, OFDMA and 1024-QAM benefits cannot be utilized.
Check RSSI and SNR. If the signal is poor (RSSI<-70 dBm), the terminal will slow down; AP power can be adjusted or AP density can be increased.
Check channel bandwidth configuration: AP1301 supports 80 MHz bandwidth (VHF/HE80) at 5 GHz. If manually set to 20 MHz, throughput will decrease.
Phenomenon 3: AP frequently restarts or loses power
Confirm whether the power supply of the PoE switch is sufficient (if multiple APs are powered simultaneously, the total power needs to be calculated).
Check if the ambient temperature exceeds 45 ℃, as overheating may result in a protective restart.
Phenomenon 4: Security authentication failure
If WPA3 Enterprise is enabled, confirm that the certificate chain of the Radius server is complete and time synchronized (NTP).
For Enhanced Open, check if the client supports OWE (some older devices do not support it).
Operation and maintenance additional functions
AP1301 has built-in real-time location system (RTLS) support (such as Stanley Healthcare/Aeroscout), which can be integrated with medical asset tracking systems.
Supports Mesh mode (P2P/P2MP) for scenarios where wired deployment is difficult, but it is important to note that wireless backhaul may occupy some bandwidth and is not recommended for high-capacity main links.
Comprehensive logs and alerts, supporting SNMP v2/v3, SSHv2, and can be integrated with third-party network management.
