IbaDeskline SAS Industrial Computer: A High Performance Platform Designed for Rigorous Industrial Measurement

Introduction

With the increasing complexity and data volume of industrial measurement systems, data acquisition platforms must simultaneously possess high-performance computing capabilities, high reliability storage architecture, and flexible scalability. IbaDeskline SAS is an industrial grade computer solution designed to meet these requirements. It adopts a tower structure design, integrates high-performance server level processors, enterprise level storage technology, and rich expansion slots, and can serve as the core operating platform for professional measurement software such as ibaPDA, meeting various application scenarios from on-site debugging to long-term monitoring.

This technical document is mainly aimed at qualified professionals with expertise in electrical, electronic modules, communication, and measurement technology. Operators should be able to assess safety risks and take corresponding measures based on their professional training, knowledge, and experience.

Important safety tips

Power safety: The device must be connected to a grounded power network (TN network) and is strictly prohibited from operating in non grounded or impedance grounded networks (IT network). Use sockets with grounding contacts and it is recommended to equip them with overvoltage protection or UPS.

Operation standard: Before turning on the device, it must be turned off, the power must be disconnected, and the power plug must be unplugged. Wait for the components to cool down before operating to avoid burns.

Electrostatic protection: When in contact with internal components, it is necessary to ensure that static electricity has been released to prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging sensitive components.

Installation environment: The equipment should be installed in a flat, non slip, impact free, dust-free, and dry environment, ensuring sufficient air circulation space.


Product Overview and Technical Positioning

IbaDeskline SAS is a tower type industrial computer designed specifically for industrial data acquisition and automation applications. The key difference between it and ordinary commercial computers lies in its enterprise level hardware selection, high scalability, and adaptability to industrial environments.

Core design concept:

High performance computing: using Intel Xeon E3 or Core 2 Quad processors, providing powerful data processing capabilities to meet the needs of real-time data acquisition and analysis.

High reliability storage: Supports RAID 1 (mirroring) and RAID 6 (dual parity) systems to ensure data security and system fault tolerance.

Flexible Scalability: Provides multiple PCIe and PCI expansion slots for installing IBA series measurement cards, dedicated graphics cards, and various communication interface cards.

Industrial grade design: With a wide temperature range (0 ° C to 55 ° C), robust mechanical structure, and redundant power options, it ensures stable operation in industrial environments.


Version and configuration options

IbaDeskline SAS offers multiple versions and upgrade options to meet the needs of different application scenarios:

Version/Option Description

IbaDeskline SAS (standard) is equipped with Xeon E3 processor, Windows 7 64 bit, PCIe expansion slot, comes standard with 1 hard drive, and can be expanded up to 8 hard drives

IbaDeskline SAS PCI is equipped with Core 2 Quad 9400 processor, Windows 7 64 bit, PCI expansion slot, and comes standard with 1 hard drive, which can be expanded up to 8 hard drives

RAID 1 system with 2 hard disk mirroring configurations, real-time data backup. Includes redundant power supply units

RAID 6 system with 8 hard disk configurations, with a net capacity equivalent to approximately 6 hard disks, can tolerate up to 2 hard disks failing simultaneously

Pre installed Windows Server 2008/2012 (R2) operating system on the server system

SSD upgrade with optional SSD solid state drive to improve system response speed and data read/write performance

Factory default settings

The device is pre configured with two user accounts at the factory:

User: PDA Administrator, Password: xadmin

Important notice: After the first startup, it is recommended to immediately change the default password to prevent unauthorized access.

Front view: Equipped with optical drive (with burning function) and hard disk hot swappable slot.

Top view: Provides USB 2.0/3.0 interface, audio interface, power button, and reset button.

Error monitoring and diagnostic function

IbaDeskline SAS provides specialized error monitoring functionality, enabling real-time monitoring of system temperature and power status through optional ibaOut Test and ibaOut State cards.

ibaOut Temp Temperature and Power Monitoring Card

This card provides two relay outputs, one for indicating temperature status and the other for indicating power status, and is equipped with dual color LED indicator lights:

LED status description

TEMP green temperature is normal

Red overtemperature alarm

POWER green power supply is normal

Red power supply error (in redundant power supply systems, it indicates that one of the power sources is faulty)

ibaOut State Monitoring Card

This card provides 6-pin connector output, which can indicate different combinations of power status and temperature status respectively, and supports load capacity up to 220 V DC.

Compatibility note: For older models (only providing a single relay output), the two outputs of ibaOut Temp can be used in parallel to achieve compatibility with the old system.


Installation and Initial Startup

Requirements for installation location

Smooth and non slip installation surface (desktop or rack)

An impact free, dust-free, and dry environment

Reserve at least 150mm of spacing at the rear to ensure cable bending radius and air circulation

Ensure sufficient air circulation space

Connection and Startup Process

Connect the device to a grounded power outlet using a power cord

Connect all peripheral cables (monitor, keyboard, mouse, network, measurement interface, etc.)

Turn on the power switch at the back of the device

Press the power button on the front panel or top

The system automatically starts the Windows operating system

Launch the required IBA software application


Installation of measurement board and expansion card

Safety Preparation Before Installation

Before opening the chassis for any internal operations, it is necessary to:

Shut down the operating system and devices

Unplug the power plug and disconnect the power connection

Waiting for the components to cool down

Take electrostatic protection measures

Backup important data

Steps to Open the Computer Case

Loosen the two screws securing the side panel at the rear of the chassis

Gently push the side panel backwards

Tilt the side panel and lift it up

Installation instructions for dedicated graphics card

For ibaDeskline SAS PCI models, if additional displays need to be connected, a dedicated graphics card (iba order number 43.900.511) needs to be installed:

Chipset: NVIDIA Quadro, supporting nView multi display technology

Bus interface: PCI Express x1 (only supports this interface version)

Power consumption: 21 W

Monitor port: DMS-59, comes with DVI/VGA adapter cable

Installation location: Reserved PCI Express x4 slot (slot 3)

Maintenance and fault recovery

Replacement of redundant power modules

If the green indicator light of the power module goes out or the buzzer sounds an alarm during operation, the module needs to be replaced:

Loosen the fastening screws securing the power module

Pull out the faulty power module

Insert a new module of the same model

Tighten the fixing screws

Note: This operation is only allowed to be performed by qualified professionals during equipment operation.

RAID System Hard Disk Replacement and Recovery

When a hard drive in a RAID system fails, the system will emit a beep sound. The recovery process is as follows:

Start the maxView Storage Manager (or Adaptec Storage Manager) program

Login (username: administrator, password: xadmin)

Identify faulty hard drives (not displayed or marked as faulty in the program interface)

Use the 'Locate' function to locate available hard drives (whose drive enclosures will flash)

Physical replacement of faulty hard drive

Initialize a new hard drive (click "Initialize")

Configure a global hot spare (click on "Spare Management" and select "Global")

Confirm the configuration, and the system will automatically start the reconstruction process

View the reconstruction progress in the "Tasks" interface

Important note: After replacing the hard drive, the RAID system will not automatically recover and the rebuild process must be manually triggered through the Storage Manager.


Operating System and Software Installation

Installation method

The device provides two installation methods for the operating system:

Manual installation: Install the Windows operating system and various hardware drivers

Recovery DVD installation (recommended): Use the included recovery DVD to automatically complete system installation and configure all hardware drivers

Recovery DVD Installation Process

Set BIOS to boot from DVD

Insert the recovery DVD and restart the device

Press any key to start from DVD

Select the system language (supports English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian)

For the Windows Server version, enter the product key (not required for Windows Embedded Standard 7)

Partition configuration (choose new disk installation, partition installation, or system replacement according to requirements)

The system automatically copies files and installs additional software

The device automatically restarts twice, and the entire process takes about 30-40 minutes

Important note:

The Windows Embedded Standard 7 license is bound to the hardware of the installation device and cannot be migrated to other computers

The recovery process is only conducted in English interface

Black or green screens may appear during the recovery process, which is a normal phenomenon

Subsequent Configuration

Windows Update: The automatic update function is turned off by default when the system leaves the factory. It is recommended to configure it according to the enterprise IT policy

Antivirus software: Antivirus software is not pre installed at the factory. It is recommended to install antivirus software that is uniformly used by the enterprise

IBA software installation: Refer to the accompanying IBA software manual for installation
