Deep Analysis of SolaHD SDN-D Rail Power Supply: A Comprehensive Guide from Selection to On site Diagnosis

In industrial automation control systems, the rail power supply is a key link in providing stable DC power to core components such as PLCs, I/O modules, sensors, and communication equipment. A high-performance and highly reliable power supply not only determines the operational stability of the control cabinet, but also directly affects the continuous operation of the entire production line. The SDN-D series DIN rail power supply launched by SolaHD has become an ideal choice for harsh industrial environments and hazardous locations due to its high efficiency, compact size, wide operating temperature range, and powerful diagnostic monitoring capabilities. Product Overview: High Performance in Small Sizes

The SDN-D series is a high-performance DIN rail power supply upgraded from the classic SDN-C series by SolaHD. One of its most significant advantages is its extremely high efficiency - taking SDN 10-24-100D as an example, the efficiency can reach 92.8% under 120Vac input and full load conditions, and can even reach 95% under 240Vac input. High efficiency means lower heat generation, thereby extending the service life of all components inside the control cabinet and reducing cooling requirements.

This series covers three power levels of 10A, 20A, and 40A (corresponding to 240W, 480W, and 960W), using natural convection cooling without the need for fans, further improving reliability. Its compact width design (10A model only 50mm, 20A model 60mm, 40A model 125mm) is 31% narrower than the SDN-C series, saving valuable rail space for the control cabinet.


Core technical features and design advantages

1. Continuous Power Boost

The SDN-D series has a unique continuous power boost function: it can provide up to 120% of the rated output current in the temperature range of -40 ° C to+50 ° C. For example, the 10A model can continuously output 12A below 50 ° C, the 20A model can output 22A, and the 40A model can output 44A. This feature allows the power supply to easily cope with additional load requirements under normal operating conditions without the need for excessive selection.

2. Inductive Load Power Boost

For inductive loads with high surge currents during startup (such as solenoid valves, contactors, motors), SDN-D can provide a short-term power boost of 1.5 times the rated current for 4 seconds, effectively avoiding voltage drops or protective actions caused by startup shocks.

3. Circuit Interruption Power Boost

When a fault occurs on the load side, the power supply needs to provide sufficient peak current to blow the fuse or trip the circuit breaker, thereby achieving fault isolation. The SDN-D series can provide up to 6 times the rated current, with a peak current lasting 15 milliseconds (and an output voltage above 19V), ensuring reliable downstream protection devices and preventing the expansion of faults.

4. Extremely wide working temperature range and hazardous location certification

The SDN-D series is capable of operating in ambient temperatures ranging from -40 ° C to+70 ° C, from extremely cold cold storage to high-temperature desert environments. In the temperature range of 60 ° C to 70 ° C, the output power is linearly reduced (from 240W to 216W for 10A models). More importantly, this series has passed rigorous hazardous location certification:

Class I Div 2, Groups A, B, C, D T4 (North American Standard)

Class I, Zone 2, Ex ec / Ex ec nC IIC T4 Gc(ATEX、IECEx)

Temperature level T4, suitable for flammable gas environments.

5. Comprehensive protection function

Short circuit protection: The output automatically drops to near zero and automatically recovers after the fault is eliminated.

Overvoltage protection: When the output voltage exceeds 32V, it will be turned off and automatically restored.

Over temperature protection: When the internal temperature is too high, the output will be turned off, the LED will alarm, and it will automatically recover after cooling.

Reverse EMF immunity: can withstand up to 35V reverse electromotive force without damage.

Parallel/Redundant Operation: The standard supports parallel output to increase power (technical support needs to be consulted), and can be paired with SDN redundant modules to achieve 1+1 redundant power supply.

6. Diagnostic and communication capabilities

The power supply body is equipped with dual color LED indicator lights (green: normal output; red: protective action or fault), and provides DC OK relay dry contacts, which can be directly connected to PLC or monitoring system. Further diagnostic monitoring can be achieved through the optional SCM network communication module, which can read key data such as voltage, current, temperature, and event logs in real time, and upload them to the upper system through EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, or HART protocols.
