Product Overview
The National Instruments NI-9262 is a 6 channel, 16 bit analog output module for CompactDAQ and CompactRIO systems. It is designed to generate accurate voltage signals for control, stimulus, and test applications. Each channel provides a plus or minus 10 V output range and can update at up to 100 kS/s, making the module suitable for both static setpoint control and dynamic waveform generation.
As a C Series module, the NI-9262 can be combined with analog input, digital input and output, counter, and communication modules in the same chassis. This modular approach allows engineers to build compact systems that combine measurement, control, and signal generation. The module is useful in laboratory validation, industrial automation, and embedded control applications.
Analog Output Performance
The NI-9262 provides six independent analog output channels with 16 bit resolution. The 16 bit resolution supports fine adjustment of output voltage, which is important for precise control of actuators, valves, power supplies, and electronic test stimuli. The plus or minus 10 V range covers common industrial and laboratory signal levels.
Each channel can update at up to 100 kS/s. Simultaneous updates across channels help maintain phase relationships between output signals, which is useful in multi axis control, quadrature signal generation, and coordinated stimulus applications. The module can generate DC levels, ramps, sine waves, and arbitrary waveforms when used with appropriate software and system timing.
Isolation and Industrial Use
The NI-9262 includes isolation between the output channels and the system backplane. Isolation helps protect the chassis and host system from transient voltages and ground potential differences that can occur in industrial environments. This makes the module suitable for connecting to external equipment that may not share the same ground as the CompactDAQ or CompactRIO system.
The module is designed for reliable operation in test and control systems. Output protection and careful signal conditioning help maintain performance when driving industrial actuators and test devices. Engineers should still verify the load impedance and current requirements of the connected device to ensure proper operation.
Software and Programming
The NI-9262 is supported by NI-DAQmx driver software. It can be programmed with LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, Measurement Studio, and other NI-DAQmx compatible development environments. Engineers can configure output ranges, update rates, and waveform generation through standard software tools. The module can also be synchronized with other C Series modules for coordinated measurement and control.
In a CompactDAQ system, the NI-9262 is often used for bench top validation and automated test. In a CompactRIO system, it can be part of an embedded control loop that reads sensors, executes control logic on an FPGA or real time controller, and updates analog outputs. This flexibility supports both simple setpoint generation and more advanced dynamic control applications.
Typical Applications
Analog stimulus for electronic test and validation
Valve, actuator, and damper control in test benches
Multi channel waveform generation for control system testing
Setpoint generation for power supplies and motor drives
Embedded control systems using CompactRIO
Laboratory automation and hardware in the loop test
The NI-9262 provides six channels of 16 bit analog output with 100 kS/s per channel updates and a plus or minus 10 V range. Its C Series integration, isolation, and software support make it a practical module for control and stimulus tasks in CompactDAQ and CompactRIO systems.
