B&R 3AM051.6 PLC Analog Input Module
The B&R 3AM051.6 is an analog input module for the X67 series distributed I/O system. It provides 4 differential analog input channels, each configurable for voltage signals (0–10V, ±10V) or current (0–20mA with external resistor). The module is designed for IP67 protection (encapsulated housing), allowing direct mounting on machines without an additional enclosure. It communicates via the POWERLINK or CAN bus (X2X Link) to a B&R PLC.
Input Specifications
Each channel: 12-bit resolution (4096 steps). Accuracy: ±0.3% of full scale at 25°C, ±0.6% over temperature. Input impedance: > 1 MΩ (voltage mode), 250 Ω (current mode with external shunt). Sampling rate: 1 ms per channel (sequential). The module has built-in low-pass filtering (40 Hz cutoff) to reduce noise. Overvoltage protection: ±30V continuous.
Configuration and Diagnostics
Configuration via Automation Studio: user selects input type (0-10V, ±10V, or 0-20mA) per channel. The module provides diagnostic features: wire break detection (for current mode, external 24V supply), underrange/overrange indication, and supply voltage monitoring. Status LEDs: PWR (green), RUN (green), ERR (red), and per-channel red LED for overrange.
Environmental and Mechanical
The module is fully potted (IP67) and rated for harsh environments. Dimensions: 68 mm x 42 mm x 34 mm (including connector). Weight: 120 g. Operating temperature: -25°C to +60°C; storage: -40°C to +85°C. Humidity: 0% to 100% condensing (IP67). Vibration resistance: 10 g (10–150 Hz). Shock: 30 g. The connector is a 12-pin M12 (male) for sensors, and a 4-pin M12 for bus/power (Ethernet or CAN).
Power and Bus Interface
Supply voltage: 24V DC (18–30V) via the M12 power connector. Power consumption: 2 W typical (plus sensor supply). The module draws 100 mA from the 5V bus. It communicates via X2X Link or POWERLINK (depending on variant; 3AM051.6 uses X2X Link with 100 Mbit/s). The bus cycle time is configurable from 1 ms to 10 ms.
Integration with B&R PLC
The module is automatically recognized when connected to an X67 bus controller or an X20 CPU with X2X Link master. Data is mapped as 16-bit integer per channel (0–4095 for unipolar, -2048 to +2047 for bipolar). The module supports cyclic data exchange and acyclic parameter access (for configuration).

Typical Applications
Used in food and beverage machinery, mobile equipment, and outdoor automation where high ingress protection is required. Typical sensors: potentiometers, pressure sensors (0-10V), and current loop transmitters (4-20mA) with an external 250Ω resistor.
Accessories and Cables
Requires a pre-assembled M12 cable (B&R part no. X67CA0C00.0010 for 1m) for the bus connection. For inputs, use M12 splitter cables or field-wireable connectors (X67AC0B00). A 4-channel input pigtail (X67AC0A01) is available for direct wiring.
Ordering and Compliance
Order number: 3AM051.6. The module is CE, UL, and RoHS certified. Manual: X67 Analog I/O User’s Manual (MAX67-AM).
