The B&R X20AT4222 is a high-precision temperature measurement expansion module designed for integration within the modular X20 automation platform. This module specializes in direct temperature evaluation from industrial sensors, converting low-level analog thermal resistances into high-resolution digital data values that are transmitted over the internal X20 backplane bus to the primary central processing unit.

Equipped with four independent input channels, the X20AT4222 supports standard resistance temperature detectors, specifically accommodating Pt100 and Pt1000 sensor calibrations. The multi-channel design allows for concurrent thermal profiling across different mechanical zones within complex processing machinery.

Measurement Resolution and Signal Conditioning

The internal conversion logic of the X20AT4222 utilizes high-resolution analog-to-digital converters to deliver precise decimal readouts, enabling fine-grained thermal control loops. The input channels implement stable constant-current excitation sources to read resistance values accurately, supporting two-wire, three-wire, or four-wire cabling configurations.

Utilizing three-wire or four-wire connections enables the module to execute automatic line resistance compensation, cancelling out signal measurement skew caused by long cable lengths between the sensor terminal and the control enclosure. Built-in digital filtering algorithms reject common fifty Hertz and sixty Hertz electrical background noise, providing clean data streams even in areas close to heavy electric motors and power lines.

If a sensor failure or open loop occurs, a specific diagnostic code is uploaded to the B&R Automation Studio environment, and localized error LEDs on the module faceplate illuminate to simplify field troubleshooting.

The physical construction of the X20AT4222 follows the standard B&R X20 three-part modular concept, featuring a bus module, a base module, and a removable terminal block. This configuration supports pre-wiring of the sensor cables before module insertion and allows for toolless module swapping without disturbing adjacent communication or power rails.
