The 6N599-1 (also referenced as KNF7361) is a heavy-duty limit switch from Eaton's control switch line. Designed for rigorous industrial use, it provides precise position detection for moving parts, with a robust metal housing and high ingress protection.
This limit switch features one normally open (NO) and one normally closed (NC) slow-action (snap-action) double-break contacts. The contacts are electrically isolated from each other, allowing flexible wiring for control circuits. The slow-action mechanism ensures positive opening per IEC 60947-5-1, guaranteeing that the NC contact opens reliably even if the contacts weld.
The contacts are rated for AC-15 (inductive) and DC-13 applications: 10A at 250V AC, 6A at 400V AC, and 0.4A at 250V DC. They have a high short-circuit withstand capability (fused at 10A gG/gL). The insulation voltage is 500V, with impulse withstand voltage 4kV. These ratings make the switch suitable for direct control of contactors, relays, or PLC inputs.
The housing is made of die-cast aluminum (or zinc alloy) with a corrosion-resistant epoxy finish. The 6N599-1 typically comes with a roller lever actuator (adjustable or fixed) but other actuator heads can be mounted. The actuator head can be positioned in 90° increments relative to the body. The switch head is rotatable to suit different mounting orientations.

With IP67 protection, the switch is dust-tight and can be temporarily submerged in water. It operates reliably in temperatures from -25°C to +80°C. A neoprene gasket seals the cover and actuator shaft. The cable entry is a metric thread (M20x1.5) accepting cable glands for various conduit sizes.
The switch body has two mounting holes (M5 or 4.3mm diameter) for secure attachment to machine frames. Wiring is via screw terminals inside the spacious terminal chamber, accommodating conductors up to 2.5mm². The terminal numbering follows EN 50013 standards for easy identification.
Typical applications include machine tools, transfer lines, elevators, heavy doors, and material handling equipment. It meets IEC 60947-5-1, UL 508, and CSA C22.2 standards, making it acceptable for global machinery exports. The robust design withstands shock (50g) and vibration (10-55Hz, 0.5mm amplitude).
Specs Overview: Mechanical life: 30 million operations. Electrical life: 5 million operations at rated load. Actuation speed: 0.05 to 0.5 m/s. Weight: approx. 0.3 kg. Terminals: screw type with pressure plates.
