GE 151X1235DB15SA01: The Core Engine of SPEEDTRONIC Mark VI Turbine Control System

With the increasing demand for safety, availability, and control accuracy of turbine units in the global energy industry, GE has launched SPEEDTRONIC ™  The Mark VI series control platform has become an industry benchmark. Among them, the model GE 151X1235DB15SA01 serves as the key control module of the platform, reflecting GE's over 30 years of technical accumulation and system integration capabilities in the field of turbine control.


System architecture and processing capability

The GE 151X1235DB15SA01 control module is based on a standard VME card rack design and supports 13 slot or 21 slot configurations, suitable for small to large turbine control systems. The module integrates a TMS320C32 DSP processor internally, supports 32-bit IEEE-854 floating-point data format, and has digital filtering, data conversion, and dual port storage capabilities, significantly improving I/O signal processing efficiency.

The main processor card executes control logic and supports frame rates of 10ms, 20ms, or 40ms to meet different control cycle requirements. The QNX real-time operating system ensures multitasking scheduling, priority preemption, and fast context switching, especially suitable for high-speed control tasks such as servo control and pyrometer sampling.


Redundant and fault-tolerant design

GE 151X1235DB15SA01 supports Simplex and Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) configurations. The TMR architecture consists of three completely independent control modules, power supply, and IONet network, achieving software level fault tolerance (SIFT). The system can withstand single electronic component failures without interrupting operation, and distinguish between on-site sensor failures and internal electronic failures, improving fault diagnosis capabilities.

The output end adopts a three coil servo valve, 2/3 relay output (such as hydraulic trip solenoid valve), and 4-20mA median selection output to ensure highly reliable execution of control commands.

I/O interface and dedicated signal processing

GE 151X1235DB15SA01 supports multiple general-purpose and dedicated I/O cards:

Discrete I/O (VCRC): 48 point input/24 point output, optically isolated, supports 1ms SOE

Analog I/O (VAIC/VAOC): 20 inputs/4 outputs or 16 outputs, supporting high-precision process signals

Temperature monitoring (VTCC/VRTD): Supports 24 thermocouples or 16 RTDs, compatible with grounded/ungrounded types

Dedicated I/O (VTUR): Supports 4-channel magnetic pulse input (2-14kHz), 2-channel PT synchronous input, shaft voltage/current monitoring, flame detection, trip solenoid valve drive

Servo Control (VSVO): 4-channel servo output, supports LVDT/LVDR feedback and flow meter pulse input, compatible with multiple servo valve coil types (± 10mA to ± 120mA)


Communication and time synchronization

The module is equipped with a VCMI card as the IONet master station, based on Ethernet 10Base2 network and using polling ADL protocol to ensure network determinism. Supports communication with GE's EX2000 excitation system, Static Starters, and other PLC control systems through UDH network, based on Ethernet Global Data (EGD) protocol, with a data update rate of up to 25Hz (40ms).

Time synchronization supports GPS or UTC sources, achieving ± 1ms system level time consistency through NTP, suitable for sequence of events (SOE) and alarm management.

GE 151X1235DB15SA01 meets the following standards:

Safety standards: UL 508A, CSA 22.2 No. 14

EMC standards: EN 50081-2, EN 50082-2, IEC 61000-4-2/3/4/5/6/11

Environmental adaptability: Operating temperature from 0 ° C to 45 ° C, storage from -40 ° C to 70 ° C, humidity from 5% to 95% without condensation, altitude exceeding EN50178 requirements

Seismic resistance: UBC Zone 4


Software maintenance and programmability

GE 151X1235DB15SA01 supports fully programmable control logic, graphical configuration using Control System Toolbox, and supports Ladder Diagram logic editing, online downloading, parameter forcing, and trend analysis. All application software is stored in non-volatile flash memory and supports level 5 password protection.
