The IAI 12G2-60-250-P-L-C1-SP is a rod-type electric actuator (also known as an electric cylinder or servo actuator) from IAI Corporation's 12G2 series. It integrates a high-precision ball screw driven by an AC servo motor, with a built-in controller (intelligent type) that eliminates the need for an external drive. This model features a 60 mm diameter body, 250 mm stroke, and includes a mechanical brake (C1 option) and safety function (SP option). It is designed for pick-and-place, pressing, and insertion tasks in automated assembly lines.

Body Size: 60 mm square
Stroke: 250 mm
Rod Type: Standard (P type: rod end with female thread)
Lead of Ball Screw: 10 mm (standard)
Maximum Speed: 500 mm/s
Rated Thrust: 300 N (continuous)
Maximum Thrust: 900 N (peak)
Repeatability: ±0.02 mm
Backlash: ≤ 0.1 mm
Linear Guide: Built-in (type: ball spline or slide guide)
Brake: Electromagnetic holding brake (C1 option) – 24V DC
The intelligent actuator includes an integrated servo controller (Intelligent Driver) mounted on the motor. It operates on 24V DC (200W max) and accepts positioning commands via I/O (NPN/PNP) or RS-232C/RS-485. Up to 256 positioning points can be stored in non-volatile memory. The controller supports incremental encoder feedback (8000 pulses/rev) for closed-loop control. Additionally, the SP option adds safety functions: Safe Torque Off (STO) per IEC 61800-5-2 and Safe Stop 1 (SS1).
The actuator has a 40-pin D-sub connector for I/O (24V DC input for start, stop, home, and output for busy, position complete, alarm). Communication is via RS-232C (9600–115200 baud) or RS-485 (Modbus RTU). The controller's firmware is field-upgradable via the RS-232 port using IAI's PC software (IAI Robot Manager). An optional fieldbus module (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, CC-Link) can be attached to the controller's expansion port.
This actuator supports three control modes: positioning (point-to-point), pushing (press-fitting with force limit), and speed control. In pushing mode, the actuator moves until a specified thrust is reached, then holds force. The controller measures real-time thrust via motor current monitoring (resolution 0.1 N). This makes it suitable for press-fit assembly of bearings or pins. The stroke end can be taught with a simple button sequence on the controller.

Operating temperature: 0°C to 40°C; storage: -10°C to 60°C. Humidity: 35-85% non-condensing. Protection class: IP40 (optional IP65 available as special order). The actuator is rated for 5,000 km of travel life at rated load. The brake life is 500,000 operations. The motor insulation class is B (130°C).
Total length (retracted): 610 mm. Weight: 5.8 kg. The body has four M8 mounting holes on the flange. The rod end has an M12 x 1.25 female thread. A clevis or rod-eye can be attached for linkage mechanisms. The motor protrudes 45 mm from the side of the body. The controller dimensions are integrated into the motor housing.
The IAI 12G2 actuator is used in semiconductor handling equipment, automotive parts assembly, pharmaceutical packaging, and electronic component insertion. Its built-in controller reduces panel space and wiring time compared to separate servo drives.
Using the IA-101-PC software (Windows), users can set acceleration/deceleration curves, force limits, home position offset, and I/O mapping. The actuator can be operated in "single mode" from a PLC using just 4 outputs (position number, start signal) and 3 inputs (ready, in-position, alarm). An optional teaching pendant (IA-Teach) allows manual jogging and parameter editing.
The actuator complies with ISO 10218-1 (robot safety) and has CE, UL, and RoHS certifications. The SP safety option meets PL d / SIL 2. The brake holds the rod in position when power is removed, preventing fall in vertical applications.
The IAI 12G2-60-250-P-L-C1-SP intelligent actuator provides a complete, compact electric motion solution with integrated control, reducing engineering time for precise linear motion tasks.
