Keyence KV-8000 Programmable Logic Controller CPU

The Keyence KV-8000 (KV8000) is a high-performance CPU unit for the KV-8000 series programmable logic controller. It combines ultra-fast ladder logic execution with built-in Ethernet/IP and extensive onboard memory. Designed for advanced machine control, this CPU can handle up to 64 axes of positioning, high-speed data logging, and simultaneous multi-tasking.

Processing Speed and Capacity

The CPU features a 1.8 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor. Basic instruction execution time is 1.9 ns per contact. Program memory: 64 MB (user ladder and function block storage). Data memory: 128 MB. The CPU can store up to 100,000 steps of ladder logic and 20,000 device comments on board. It supports up to 4096 I/O points and 512 axes of motion via KV expansion modules.

Built-in Communication

The KV-8000 includes two Ethernet ports (10/100/1000Base-T) supporting EtherNet/IP (scanner and adapter), MODBUS TCP, and Keyence’s KV protocol. One USB 2.0 port for programming and data transfer. Two RS-232C ports (9-pin) for serial devices. The CPU also has an SD card slot (up to 32GB) for data logging and program backup.

Motion and Positioning

Internal motion control supports up to 64 axes via the KV-XH16ML positioning module or EtherCAT gateway. The CPU provides electronic cam, gearing, interpolation, and registration functions. It can execute positioning instructions with 0.5 µs synchronization. The built-in high-speed counter (4 channels, 200 kHz) can be used for feedback.

Programming Environment

Programming is done using Keyence’s KV Studio software (IEC 61131-3 compliant). Languages supported: ladder, structured text, function block, and sequential function chart. The software includes real-time debugging, simulation, and online editing. The CPU supports up to 32 concurrent tasks (cyclic and event-driven).

Diagnostic and Reliability

LED indicators: RUN, ERROR, SD, LINK, and USER. The CPU logs up to 512 events with timestamp in non-volatile memory. It features a hardware watchdog and dual-core lockstep for safety-critical applications (SIL2 capable with additional modules). An onboard real-time clock with battery backup (5 years typical).


Power and Environment

Power supply: 24V DC (±20%), consumption 0.5A typical. Dimensions: 100 x 110 x 75 mm (W x H x D). Weight 0.6 kg. Operating temperature: 0°C to 55°C; storage: -25°C to 70°C. Humidity: 5% to 95% non-condensing. The CPU mounts on a DIN rail and features a fanless design.

Ideal for high-speed packaging machines, pick-and-place robots, printing presses, and assembly lines. The KV-8000’s fast execution and motion capabilities suit demanding automation tasks.
