Description

Lenze ECSEA048C4B ECS servo system axis module

Product Overview

Lenze ECSEA048C4B is a high-performance Axis Module in Lenze's ECS Servo System, designed specifically for multi axis, high dynamic response automation applications. The ECS servo system is known for its compact size, fast assembly, and trouble free debugging, and ECSEA048C4B is an outstanding representative of this platform [42 † L1-L3].

The rated DC bus current of this model is 48 A, which belongs to the high current specification in the ECS axis module series. It can provide peak output capability of up to 64 A, meeting the demanding driving tasks of high overload and rapid acceleration and deceleration [42 † L5-L6]. As an important component of the ECS system, ECSEA048C4B can be combined with other shaft modules and power modules to build a comprehensive drive solution from single axis to multi axis, from simple speed control to complex positioning and electronic cam.

The module offers three installation versions: Built in unit, Push through technique, and Cold plate installation [42 † L6-L8] [47 † L32-L38]:

Built in: standard control cabinet installation, module comes with heat sink and fan.

Push through technology: The heat sink penetrates the back panel of the control cabinet to dissipate heat outward, and about 65% of the heat loss is directly discharged to the outside of the cabinet, significantly reducing the temperature rise inside the cabinet [37 † L6-L10].

Cold plate installation: The module does not come with a built-in heat sink and is directly installed on the external heat dissipation platform of the customer's system, achieving ultra-thin design and suitable for scenarios with extremely limited space.

Function and Features

3.1 High performance motor control

ECSEA048C4B adopts magnetic field oriented servo control, perfectly adapting to synchronous servo motors, asynchronous servo motors, and standard asynchronous motors [44 † L3-L4]. This control method ensures high-precision torque and speed regulation during dynamic acceleration and deceleration, minimizing ripple and vibration to the greatest extent possible.

The module is equipped with comprehensive monitoring and protection mechanisms, including phase loss detection, overvoltage/undervoltage protection, short circuit protection, grounding protection, motor stalling and overload protection, etc. [44 † L6-L10]. Simultaneously providing diagnostic interfaces and status LEDs for real-time monitoring of the health status of the drive.

3.2 Integrated Security Features

All ECS axle modules come standard with the "Safe Torque Off" (STO) function, which complies with the EN 954-1 control category 3 standard. Without the need for external contactors, the motor torque output can be safely cut off, simplifying the safety circuit design, reducing system costs, and meeting the requirements of mechanical safety regulations [42 † L10-L11].

3.3 Flexible Communication and I/O

ECSEA048C4B is equipped with dual CAN system bus interfaces and AIF automation interface slots, supporting expansion of various fieldbus communication modules such as DeviceNet, INTERBUS, PROFIBUS, and LECOM series [59 † L14-L25].

The digital I/O of the module includes:

4-channel digital input, compliant with PLC (IEC 61131-2) level standard

2-channel digital output (1 channel 50 mA, 1 channel 1.5 A) [45 † L8-L10]

Provide 1 channel of differential input with 11 bit resolution (± 10 V/0   -   20 mA) [45 † L5-L7] in terms of analog quantity. The encoder interface adopts a 9-pin Sub-D socket, supporting SinCos/TTL incremental encoders and SinCos absolute encoders (Hiperface interface) [45 † L13-L14].

3.4 Braking and Energy Management

The module integrates a brake chopper and supports external brake resistors to convert the regenerative energy of the motor into thermal energy dissipation, achieving fast and controllable deceleration and shutdown [44 † L9-L10]. In a multi axis common DC bus system, shaft modules can achieve energy exchange through DC bus interconnection. The regenerated energy generated by one shaft can be directly supplied to other accelerating shafts, significantly reducing the peak power drawn from the grid.

Intelligent software functionality (ECS Application variant)

ECSEA048C4B supports ECS Application variants (where "A" in the model represents Application) and has programmable PLC functionality according to IEC 61131-3 standard [43 † L25-L26]. This makes it an intelligent servo controller that efficiently implements modular machine concepts. The main software functions include:

524 KByte flash program memory+2 × 64-KB sector main memory RAM+11.2 KB data RAM [49 † L7-L9]

Processing speed: Only 0.7 µ s per Boolean operation [49 † L10]

Task type: 1 loop task+8 time or event triggered tasks [49 † L11]

6000 bytes EEPROM persistent storage+160 bytes NVRAM (power down hold)+32 bytes persistent storage [49 † L9]

Programming software: Drive PLC Developer Studio, supports IL, LD, FBD, ST, SFC, and CFC editors [49 † L12-L13]

Optional software packages include:

Positioner (positioning software package): Provides up to 128 freely callable motion curves, supports acceleration limit and 16 zeroing modes [60 † L15-L26]

Cam (Electronic Cam Software Package): Supports up to 48 cam curves (up to 4096 interpolation points per curve), enabling online stretching, compression, and phase shifting of curves [61 † L15-L27]

Winder (winding software package): Provides multiple winding solutions such as dancer control, open-loop tension control, and closed-loop tension control [62 † L14-L30]

Prepared Solutions: including specialized functional modules such as flying shears and cross cutting machines [63 † L13-L20]

Multi axis system integration

In multi axis applications, multiple ECSEA048C4B axis modules can be interconnected through a DC bus and integrated with a CAN motion bus to achieve energy sharing and synchronous motion between axes. The CAN motion bus supports cycle times as low as 1 ms, ensuring high synchronization of multi axis coordinated motion [42 † L12-L14].

The power modules (such as ECSE012, ECSE020, ECSE040) supply power to the DC bus and provide regenerative energy feedback function. For ultra dynamic applications, ECS capacitor modules can also be optionally selected to enhance the DC bus capacity and meet instantaneous high-power requirements [53 † L1-L13].
