The MTL 5541 is a 1-channel isolated barrier with repeater power supply, part of the MTL5500 Series. It provides intrinsically safe power to 2- or 3-wire 4-20mA transmitters located in hazardous areas (Zone 0, IIC, T4-6) and repeats the current in the isolated output circuit to drive a safe area load. The barrier is HART transparent, enabling 2-way digital communication for smart transmitters without additional equipment. The MTL 5541 eliminates the need for a high integrity earth ground required by traditional shunt diode safety barriers.

The MTL 5541 serves as a repeater power supply, providing a fully floating DC supply to power a 2- or 3-wire transmitter located in a hazardous area. The output current from the transmitter is repeated in the isolated output circuit, allowing a safe-area load to be driven. The barrier provides 3-port isolation as standard, ensuring no electrical connection exists between the hazardous area, safe area, and power supply. This galvanic isolation eliminates ground loops and removes the requirement for a high-integrity earth ground. The device is HART transparent, allowing bidirectional digital communication for transmitter configuration and diagnostics.
The MTL 5541 is suitable for 2- and 3-wire temperature transmitters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, and flow meters installed in hazardous areas. It is used in chemical plants, oil refineries, pharmaceutical facilities, power generation, and gas processing installations where intrinsic safety and signal integrity are required.
