The Omron C200H-DA003 is an analog output module (also called an analog output unit) designed for the C200H series programmable logic controllers. This module provides two independent analog output channels, each configurable for voltage (0-10V, -10V to +10V) or current (4-20 mA). With 12-bit resolution, it is suitable for controlling proportional valves, variable frequency drives, chart recorders, and other analog actuators in industrial processes.

The output range for each channel is independently set by DIP switches located on the module's front panel. Switches 1 and 2 select voltage/current and polarity. The default setting is 0-10V. For 4-20 mA current output, an external 24V DC supply must be connected to the loop (the module does not supply loop power). The output data is written as a 12-bit binary value (0 to 4095) mapped to the selected range. For example, in 4-20 mA mode, digital 0 = 4 mA, digital 4095 = 20 mA.
The C200H-DA003 occupies 2 I/O words in the PLC's I/O table: one word for output data (channel 1 in the lower byte, channel 2 in the upper byte), and a second word for control/status (enables, hold function, and error flags). The module is assigned to specific slots in the backplane; the addressing is automatic when using the C200H I/O table configuration. For software, the analog output values are written using MOV instructions to the corresponding output word.
The module mounts in any I/O slot of a C200H base unit (C200H-BCxxx). The front panel has a removable terminal block (screw clamp) with 8 terminals: two for each channel's output (+ and -), plus two for the external power supply when using current output. For voltage output, only two terminals per channel are required. Use shielded twisted-pair cable for analog signals; connect the shield to the PLC's ground terminal. Avoid routing analog wires near power cables to prevent noise induction.

The module includes a "hold" function that freezes the output at the last value when the PLC is in program mode or if a communication error occurs. This prevents sudden analog jumps during maintenance or fault conditions. The hold setting is configurable via the control word. Additionally, an output enable bit must be set for each channel before any analog value is output; otherwise, the output defaults to 0V or 0mA (or mid-scale for bipolar).
An LED on the front panel indicates normal operation (green) and error (red). Errors include loss of external power (for current loop), output short-circuit detection, and internal DAC failure. The status word provides detailed error codes that can be read by the PLC to trigger alarms.
Operating temperature: 0-55°C; storage: -20-75°C; humidity: 35-85% non-condensing. The module is UL 508, CSA, and CE certified. It is RoHS compliant.
Typical uses include controlling analog inputs of variable frequency drives (VFDs), positioning proportional valves, setting speed references for DC drives, and generating setpoints for temperature controllers. The C200H-DA003 is commonly found in older legacy systems; for new designs, Omron recommends the CJ1W-DA041 series.
No routine maintenance required. When replacing a failed module, ensure that the DIP switch settings on the new unit match the old one. After installation, verify the output at minimum and maximum digital values using a multimeter. The module's calibration is factory-set and does not require field adjustment.
The Omron C200H-DA003 analog output module provides reliable, high-resolution analog control for C200H PLCs, making it a valuable component for process control in existing manufacturing lines.
