Renishaw PHC10-3PLUS Controller Module for CMM

The Renishaw PHC10-3PLUS is a dedicated controller module designed for use with Renishaw's PH10 series motorised probe heads on coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). It handles all power, communication, and signal processing between the CMM controller and the probe head, enabling automatic indexing and precise touch-trigger probing.

Functional Capabilities

The PHC10-3PLUS provides full control of PH10 heads, allowing indexing at 7.5° increments across both A and B axes. It supports rapid positioning with repeatability of 0.5 µm at 50 mm probe length. The module also processes signals from TP200, TP20, and other standard touch-trigger probes, converting analog signals to digital triggers.

Electrical Specifications

Input power is 24V DC (±10%) at 0.5A typically. The module interfaces with CMM controllers via a 25-pin D-sub connector (Renishaw standard) or optional serial communication. Output to the probe head is through a 9-pin D-sub connector. It includes LED status indicators for power, head lock, and probe signal.


Communication Protocols

The PHC10-3PLUS supports both parallel I/O and serial RS-232C communication. In serial mode, it uses Renishaw's standard Hayes-compatible command set for head positioning and probe status. Baud rates from 9600 to 115200 are selectable. The module also passes through touch-trigger signals with response time under 1 ms.

Integration with CMM Software

Compatible with major CMM software packages including MODUS, MCOSMOS, and Calypso, as well as legacy Renishaw UCC controllers. The unit can be mounted inside the CMM control cabinet or externally. A configuration DIP switch block allows setting of node addresses and communication parameters.

Environmental and Mechanical

Operating temperature range: 5°C to 40°C; storage: -10°C to 60°C. Humidity: 30% to 80% non-condensing. The module is housed in a metal enclosure for electromagnetic shielding. Dimensions are 140 x 100 x 45 mm, weight 0.5 kg. It is designed for DIN rail mounting.

Diagnostic Functions

Built-in self-test routines verify head communication and probe continuity. The module can store error codes for troubleshooting. An auto-calibration routine helps correct for head mounting offsets, improving measurement accuracy.

Applications

Used exclusively on coordinate measuring machines for automated part inspection. The PHC10-3PLUS is essential for any CMM equipped with a PH10 motorised head, enabling multi-angle probing without manual reorientation.
