Pasaban COM CAN MC-2006 03 PLC Card

The Pasaban COM CAN MC-2006 03 is a communication PLC card featuring a CAN bus interface. It is designed for Pasaban automation systems, commonly used in machine tool controls, woodworking machinery, and industrial equipment. This card enables high-speed, reliable data exchange between the central controller and remote I/O or drives.

Technical Specifications

The MC-2006 03 card is based on a 16-bit microcontroller with dedicated CAN controller (SJA1000) and transceiver (82C250). CAN interface supports CAN 2.0A/B, baud rates from 10 kbit/s to 1 Mbit/s. The card provides two optically isolated CAN ports (galvanic isolation 1000V DC). A 32-byte FIFO buffer for each port. Host interface: 16-bit parallel bus (Pasaban backplane). Memory mapped I/O with selectable base address via DIP switches. Power consumption: 5V DC at 200 mA from backplane. Operating temperature 0-60°C. Dimensions: 160 mm x 100 mm (Eurocard format). Front panel LEDs: CAN status (TX, RX, error), power, and host activity.

The card is configured via the Pasaban programming environment. Parameters include: baud rate, acceptance mask/filter for 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers, transmit and receive mailbox setup (up to 32 messages per port). The PLC program can read/write CAN data using specific register addresses (e.g., %R5000). For CANopen, a pre-compiled firmware is available to act as a master or slave with PDO mapping and SDO support. The card also supports event-triggered transmission and cyclic messages.

Installation

Insert the card into an available slot in the Pasaban rack, aligning with the card guides. Secure with front screws. Set the base address DIP switches according to the system configuration (avoiding conflicts with other cards). Connect the CAN bus cable (shielded twisted pair) to the 9-pin D-sub connector (pin 2: CAN_L, pin 3: CAN_GND, pin 7: CAN_H). Termination resistors (120 Ω) must be installed at both ends of the bus. The card provides jumpers to enable internal termination if no other termination exists.

Applications

Typical applications include connecting Pasaban PLCs to remote I/O racks, servo drives, smart sensors, and operator panels via CAN. It is used in woodworking machines (routers, edge banders), packaging lines, and textile machinery where distributed control is needed.


Diagnostics and Troubleshooting

The card’s LEDs: PWR (green) – power good; TX (yellow) flashes when transmitting; RX (green) flashes when receiving; ERR (red) indicates bus off or overload condition. If ERR is solid, check bus termination, baud rate mismatch, or duplicate node IDs. The PLC can read error counters (receive/transmit) from dedicated registers. The card also stores a history of the last 10 CAN errors.

Environmental and Standards

The Pasaban MC-2006 03 complies with CE and RoHS. Operating humidity 10-85% non-condensing. Storage temperature -20°C to +70°C. The card is designed for industrial environments but not rated for outdoor or washdown use without an enclosure.
