The Pilz 401112 is a PITswitch series emergency stop pull-cord switch with a 5-meter cable. Designed for conveyor systems, long machinery, and production lines where operators need to stop the equipment from any point along the cable, this switch provides a durable, IP67-rated solution. The en1.1a-5m-s model features two normally closed (N/C) safety contacts and one auxiliary contact, and is suitable for use in safety circuits up to PL e / SIL CL3.
The switch body is made of impact-resistant thermoplastic with a yellow/red colour scheme (high visibility). Protection rating: IP67 (dust-tight and temporary immersion). Operating temperature: -25°C to +70°C. Contact arrangement: 2 N/C (safety) + 1 N/O (auxiliary). Contacts are forced-guided. Rated insulation voltage: 250 V. Thermal current: 5 A. Switching capacity: 250 V AC / 2.5 A, 24 V DC / 1 A. Pull-cord length: 5 m (integral cable, not user-replaceable). The switch also includes an integrated tension indicator and a lockable reset button. Dimensions: 140 mm × 60 mm × 60 mm. The switch requires a minimum cable tension of 30 N to stay closed.
Emergency stop pull-cord switch with 5 m integrated cable
Two forced-guided N/C contacts for safety
One auxiliary N/O contact for PLC indication
IP67 protection for washdown and outdoor use
Integrated cable tension indicator
Lockable manual reset with turn-to-release function
CE, UL, TÜV certified for PL e / SIL CL3

The switch is installed along the length of a conveyor or machine. A pull cord is attached to the switch’s tension mechanism. Under normal operation, the cord is taut and the switch contacts are closed (machine enabled). When an operator pulls the cord, the switch mechanism trips, opening the safety contacts and stopping the machine. The switch latches mechanically and must be reset by turning the yellow reset button after the cord is re-tensioned. The auxiliary contact changes state simultaneously, providing a signal to the PLC for diagnostic purposes.
Mount the switch body on a fixed structure using M4 screws through the four mounting holes. Attach the pull cord to the tensioner eyelet, ensuring the cord runs straight and returns through pulleys if needed. Adjust the cord tension so that the tension indicator shows green. Connect the pre-wired cable (5 m) to a junction box or directly to a safety relay. The cable has 6 wires: two pairs for the N/C contacts (typically black and white), one pair for the auxiliary (blue and brown). Do not shorten or extend the integral cable; use a junction box for extensions. After installation, test the switch by pulling the cord; the machine should stop and the reset button must be rotated to re-enable.
Typical applications include emergency stop on baggage handling conveyors, assembly lines, packaging machinery, and any long industrial equipment where reachable emergency stop buttons are insufficient. The IP67 rating allows use in food processing, automotive paint shops, and outdoor conveyors.
The switch is CE marked and UL listed. It meets EN ISO 13850 (emergency stop), EN 60947-5-1, and EN 60947-5-5. It is RoHS compliant. The cable is oil-resistant and suitable for dragging applications.
The Pilz 401112 PITswitch en1.1a-5m-s provides a robust, high-reliability emergency stop solution for long machinery. Its 5 m integral cable, IP67 rating, and forced-guided contacts ensure safe operation even in harsh industrial environments.
