The Schneider 140NOM25200 is a network head adapter module designed for the Modicon Quantum programmable logic controller platform. This module serves as a communication interface, allowing Quantum PLCs to connect to a Modbus Plus network. Modbus Plus is a high-speed, token-passing industrial network commonly used in distributed control systems (DCS) and SCADA applications. The 140NOM25200 is identified with firmware version PV:01 and software version SV:2.14. It enables peer-to-peer communication between Quantum controllers, as well as data exchange with operator workstations, drives, and other Modbus Plus devices. The module is essential for integrating Quantum PLCs into legacy or existing Modbus Plus infrastructures.
The 140NOM25200 occupies a single slot in a Quantum backplane and communicates with the CPU over the backplane bus. It features a 9-pin D-sub connector for the Modbus Plus twisted-pair cable (RS-485), with a maximum segment length of 450 meters (1,500 feet) and up to 32 nodes per segment. The module supports network baud rates of 1 Mbps. It includes LED indicators for power, network activity, communication status, and error conditions.
The network head adapter handles all Modbus Plus protocol layers, including token management, message routing, and error checking. It supports global data broadcast (up to 32 words per node) and peer-to-peer messaging. The module is configured using Schneider Electric's Concept or ProWORX software, where the user assigns a unique Modbus Plus node address (1-64). The 140NOM25200 also supports the Modbus Plus "Peer Cop" feature for I/O scanning, allowing the Quantum CPU to directly exchange I/O data with remote drops without custom programming. The module is hot-swappable in certain Quantum chassis with appropriate power supply.

The 140NOM25200 acts as a Modbus Plus slave and master (peer). It continuously listens for the network token; when it receives the token, it may send messages or broadcast global data. The Quantum CPU writes output data to the module's buffer, which is then transmitted as global data or via peer-to-peer messages. Conversely, incoming messages are stored in the module's receive buffer and made available to the CPU. The module automatically handles message retries, CRC checking, and token pass management. The Peer Cop feature, once configured, allows the module to directly map up to 32 words of input and 32 words of output to/from remote devices without CPU intervention.
The 140NOM25200 is used in distributed automation systems where a Modbus Plus backbone is already installed. Typical applications include water/wastewater treatment plants, material handling systems, and legacy automotive assembly lines. It is also used as a replacement module for failed adapters in existing Quantum installations.
