The VIPA 972-0DP10 is a PROFIBUS DP interface module engineered for seamless integration of VIPA programmable logic controllers into PROFIBUS networks. This module serves as a communication gateway, enabling reliable data exchange between VIPA CPU systems and PROFIBUS field devices.
The 972-0DP10 operates as a PROFIBUS DP slave interface, connecting directly to VIPA CPU modules via the backplane bus. It supports automatic baud rate detection up to 12 Mbit/s, ensuring compatibility with various PROFIBUS network configurations. The module implements the PROFIBUS DP protocol in accordance with IEC 61158 and EN 50170 standards, providing standardized communication behavior across mixed-vendor installations.
This interface module supports both master and slave configurations, offering flexibility for different network topologies. In slave mode, it allows VIPA CPUs to participate as intelligent field devices on a PROFIBUS network managed by a third-party master. When configured as a master, it can manage communication with up to 125 slave devices, making it suitable for distributed control architectures. Parameterization is performed through the engineering software with user-defined process data mapping.
Protocol: PROFIBUS DP (IEC 61158 compliant)
Baud Rate: 9.6 kbit/s to 12 Mbit/s, automatic detection
Transmission Medium: RS-485 shielded twisted pair
Bus Connection: 9-pin D-sub female connector
Galvanic Isolation: 500 V DC between bus and logic
Power Supply: 5 V DC from backplane, 30 mA typical
Operating Temperature: 0°C to +60°C

Diagnostic capabilities include comprehensive status indicators with LEDs for power, bus activity, and error conditions. The module supports extended diagnostics according to PROFIBUS DP specification, allowing detailed fault reporting to the master station. Configuration is performed using VIPA's WinPLC7 or Speed7 programming environments, with GSD files provided for integration into third-party PROFIBUS configuration tools. The module supports parameter data lengths up to 244 bytes per direction, accommodating complex process data structures.
The 972-0DP10 is commonly deployed in manufacturing automation, process control, and building management systems where PROFIBUS serves as the fieldbus backbone. When paired with VIPA CPUs, it enables the creation of distributed I/O structures with remote racks, drives, and instrumentation. The module's compact form factor allows installation in standard VIPA system enclosures alongside power supplies and I/O modules.
