ADLINK MXE-5400 series: an embedded computing solution designed for harsh industrial environments

In the fields of industrial automation, intelligent transportation, and critical infrastructure management, the stability and performance of computing platforms directly affect the reliability of the entire system. With the iteration of technology, the previous generation of embedded computers may face discontinuation or performance bottlenecks. How to choose an alternative platform that combines powerful computing power, rich I/O interfaces, and can adapt to harsh environments has become a focus of attention for system integrators and engineers. ADLINK's MXE-5400 series fanless embedded computers are the ideal choice designed to address such needs.


Core advantage: Perfect balance between performance and energy efficiency

The core power source of MXE-5400 series comes from the fourth generation Intel ®  Core ™ The processor offers three options: i7-4700EQ, i5-4400E, and i3-4100E. Compared to its predecessor, the Haswell architecture significantly optimizes power consumption control while improving processing performance. For applications that require processing large amounts of data and running complex algorithms, such as video analysis or real-time control, this series of processors can provide sufficient computing power guarantee.


Coping with harsh environments: fanless design and wide temperature operation

Industrial sites are often accompanied by dust, vibration, and extreme temperatures. The MXE-5400 series adopts a fanless cooling design, which avoids the risk of system downtime caused by fan failure. Its mechanical structure has been specially strengthened and has a vibration resistance of 5 Grms (when using CF or SSD). In terms of operating temperature, the standard model supports 0 ° C to 50 ° C, while the MXE-5401 can operate from -20 ° C to 60 ° C through extended temperature options, and the MXE-5402/5403 can be extended to -20 ° C to 70 ° C, ensuring stable operation in outdoor or high/low temperature environments.

Rich external interfaces: worry free connectivity

Faced with diverse on-site equipment, MXE-5400 provides extremely rich I/O interfaces:

Display output: Supports 1 x DVI-I and 2 x DisplayPort, can simultaneously connect three independent displays, meeting the needs of multi screen monitoring.

Network communication: onboard 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports (GbE), three of which use Intel ®  I210IT controller, using I217LM PHY, suitable for building redundant networks or acting as gateway devices.

Data and Expansion: Equipped with 6 USB 3.0 interfaces (4 of which provide 1600mA high current output), 4 serial ports (COM, supporting RS-232/422/485), 8 isolated digital I/O channels, and eSATA interface for easy connection of various sensors, actuators, and external storage.


Wireless Interconnection and Storage Expansion

In order to meet the needs of modern IoT and remote communication, the MXE-5400 is equipped with two mini PCIe slots (one of which can be configured as mSATA through jumper cables) and a USIM card slot. This allows the system to flexibly integrate WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, or 3G/4G wireless modules, becoming a communication hub for mobile vehicles or remote sites. In terms of storage, in addition to supporting 2 2.5-inch SATA III hard drives/solid-state drives and RAID 0/1/5 functionality, it also provides CFast card slots and eSATA interfaces, offering users multiple data storage and backup solutions.


Security, manageability, and software ecology

In critical applications, the security and manageability of the system are crucial. MXE-5400 supports Intel ®  vPro ™ Technology (including iAMT) ™  9.0, TPM 1.2, TXT, and Intel ®  VT ™), Allow IT administrators to perform remote out of band management, troubleshooting, and security policy deployment. In conjunction with ADLINK's self-developed SEMA (Intelligent Embedded Management Agent) tool, users can monitor the system's health status (such as temperature and voltage) in real-time and perform predictive maintenance. In terms of software compatibility, this series supports Windows 7/7 Embedded and mainstream Linux distributions, facilitating smooth migration of existing systems.

With its balanced characteristics, the MXE-5400 series is widely used in:

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS): Used for in vehicle entertainment, vehicle tracking, and roadside monitoring.

Digital security monitoring: supports multi-channel video capture, encoding, and intelligent analysis.

Selection and Configuration Guide

Users can choose different models based on performance requirements: MXE-5401 (i7), MXE-5402 (i5), or MXE-5403 (i3). ADLINK offers multiple factory pre installed options, including upgrading memory to 8/16GB, 500GB HDD (0 ° C to 50 ° C), or 32/64GB industrial grade solid-state drive (-20 ° C to 70 ° C), as well as a 160W wide temperature AC-DC power adapter, simplifying the system integration process.
