HIMA HIJunctionBox: Creating a New Era of Distributed Intelligent Security Platform

1. Overview: Extending the intelligent security platform to the site

Traditional safety instrumented systems typically require a large number of cables to connect from the site to the central control room, resulting in high wiring costs, long construction periods, and large space occupation. HIMA's HIJunctionBox proposes an innovative "direct safety" concept, which moves the I/O layer of the safety control system forward to the field area.

Core advantages:

Reduce hardware facilities: No longer require large cable trays and cable cabinets.

Reduce wiring costs: significantly reduce the number of main cables from the site to the control room.

Shortening the Front End Engineering (FEED) cycle: Due to the use of standardized pre configuration and factory testing, the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) cycle has been significantly shortened.

Engineering simplification: I/O modifications can be achieved by replacing modules without the need for rewiring.


2. Technical specifications and environmental adaptability

HIJunctionBox adopts a sturdy industrial grade design, which can adapt to harsh industrial site environments and provide high-level protection and explosion-proof certification.

2.1 Mechanical and Environmental Specifications

Parameter Project Specification Description

The shell material is 316L stainless steel, with a wall thickness of 2mm, providing extremely strong corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.

Dimensions (H/W/D) 1200 x 800 x 400 mm Compact design, suitable for installation environments with limited space.

Protection level IP66/NEMA 4X (compliant with IEC 60529), high dust and waterproof rating, suitable for indoor and outdoor environments and environments that require water washing.

Explosion proof certification is applicable to Ex Zone 2 (Ex Approved), which can be safely installed in Zone 2 explosion-proof areas.

Weight of 120-150 kg (excluding packaging) depends on the internal module configuration.

The installation method is wall mounted, which is convenient for on-site fixed installation.

2.2 Power Supply and Connection

Supply voltage: 100-240 V AC or 110-250 V DC, with wide range adaptability.

Cable entry system:

Two power inlet ports.

Two communication connection inlet ports.

Supports up to 96 I/O cable entry ports, greatly increasing I/O density through a multi-core cable conversion system.

2.3 Communication Network

Transmission medium: Supports fiber optic (single-mode) or copper cable (CAT 6).

Communication standard: Ethernet 1000 BaseT (Gigabit Ethernet), ensuring high-speed data transmission.


3. Flexible compatibility: Supports HIMax and HIMatrix components

The biggest advantage of HIJunctionBox is its high flexibility, allowing for the installation of safety components from the HIMax or HIMatrix series according to application requirements. Users can adjust security policies without changing hardware platforms.

3.1 Support HIMax components (applicable to large distributed systems)

HIJunctionBox can be equipped with SIL 3 certified HIMax modules internally, suitable for building high availability safety systems:

Processor module: X-CPU 31 (with system bus connection, SIL 3/Cat. 4/PL e/CENELEC SIL 4).

System bus module: X-SB 01 (SIL 3/Cat. 4/PL e/CENELEC SIL 4).

Digital input: X-DI 32 01 (32 channels, 24V DC, SIL 3).

Analog input: X-AI 32 01 (32 channels, 4-20mA, line monitoring, SIL 3).

Temperature/Analog Input: X-AI 16 51 (16 channels, thermal resistance Pt100, ± 280mV, SIL 1).

Digital output:

X-DO 32 01 (32 channels, 24V DC, 0.5A, short circuit monitoring LS, SIL 3).

X-DO 24 01 (24 channels, 24V DC, 0.5A, line monitoring LS/LB, SIL 3).

Analog output: X-AO 16 01 (16 channels, 4-20mA, electrically isolated, SIL 3).

HART interface module: X-HART 32 01 (32 channels, SIL 3).

Empty module: X-BLK 01 (for I/O slot cover).

3.2 Support for HIMatrix components (applicable to compact systems)

For space limited or small applications, HIJunctionBox can also integrate compact modules from the HIMatrix series:

Compact controller: F35 034 (24 DI, 8 AI, 2 Counter, 8 DO, SIL 3/Cat. 4/PL e).

Remote I/O device (F3 AIO 8/4 014): 8 analog inputs (0-10V), 4 non safety related analog outputs, SIL 3。

Remote I/O device (F3 DIO 20/8 024): 20 digital inputs (with crossover monitoring), 8 digital outputs, SIL 3。

Remote I/O device (F1 DI 16 01): 16 digital inputs (with crossover monitoring), SIL 3。

Remote I/O device (F2 DO 16 014): 16 digital outputs (24V DC, 1A), SIL 3.


4. Core advantages and application scenarios

4.1 Reduce Life Cycle Cost (LCC)

Infrastructure cost: By dispersing the I/O layer to the site, the space requirements of the control room are minimized, reducing the number of cable trays and junction cabinets.

Installation cost: The pre configured and factory tested HIJunctionBox significantly reduces on-site wiring and debugging time.

Operation and maintenance costs: Fault diagnosis and testing are relatively simple during the operation phase, as the system has low complexity and fault localization is more accurate.

4.2 Front end Engineering Design (FEED)

Due to the adoption of highly standardized design, the time for the front-end engineering design phase has been significantly reduced. HIMA provides pre configured and tested HIJunctionBox, which users can quickly integrate into existing systems. Communication is achieved through the SafeEthernet fiber network, which has strong anti-interference capabilities.
