Product positioning and DPS family
DPS 114 is a cost-effective differential global navigation satellite system (DGNSS) sensor designed specifically for users with high requirements for availability and reliability. It provides meter level standard positioning accuracy and can achieve global decimeter level accuracy through Fugro Seastar G4 service.
The DPS product series is developed by Kongsberg Seatex and has been widely validated to be suitable for all applications that require reliable positioning solutions in safety critical environments. As the entry-level to mid-range model of the series, DPS 114 balances cost and performance, making it an ideal choice for workboats, platform support ships, and various offshore operations.
GNSS infrastructure and multi constellation support
Full constellation reception capability
DPS 114 has a built-in multi frequency and multi constellation receiver, and supports:
GPS (Global Positioning System)
GLONASS (Russian Global Navigation Satellite System)
Galileo (European Union Galileo System)
Beidou (China Beidou System)
Compared to receivers that only support single or dual constellations, full constellation reception significantly increases the number of visible satellites, especially in areas with signal obstruction such as canyons, ports, or near offshore facilities, greatly enhancing the availability and continuity of positioning.
Multi frequency technology
By receiving signals from multiple frequencies, DPS 114 can effectively eliminate ionospheric delay errors, improve positioning accuracy and convergence speed, laying the foundation for subsequent precision single point positioning (PPP) technology.
Differential correction service
DPS 114 supports multiple differential correction sources, which can be flexibly selected according to the work area and accuracy requirements.
Star based enhancement system
Built in SBAS receiving capability, free use of regional satellite based enhancement services:
WAAS (North American Wide Area Augmentation System)
EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service)
GAGAN (Indian GPS assisted geostationary orbit enhanced navigation system)
MSAS (Japan Multi functional Satellite Augmentation System)
SBAS services can provide horizontal accuracy of better than 1 meter (95% confidence interval), meeting most conventional navigation needs.
Differential foundation system
Supports receiving differential correction signals from IALA DGPS beacon stations, suitable for operations in coastal and port areas. Built in IALA beacon receiver, no additional equipment required.
Fugro Seastar G4 Service
A major highlight of DPS 114 is its built-in L-band receiver, which enables Fugro Seastar G4 service. Seastar G4 is a global precision single point positioning service provided by Fugro, featuring:
Global coverage: Broadcast through Fugro's proprietary dual system reference station network, without the need for local reference stations.
Meter level accuracy: The typical horizontal accuracy can reach 10 centimeters (95% confidence interval).
Orbit and clock correction: Provides precise orbit and clock correction for GPS and GLONASS, achieving fast convergence and high-precision positioning.
Optional RTCM input
In addition, DPS 114 also supports differential correction of RTCM SC-104 format through serial port input (versions 2.2, 2.3), which can be connected to local reference stations or third-party differential services.
Hardware Design and Interface
Built in human-machine interface
The DPS 114 unit is equipped with an embedded keyboard and display screen, allowing users to directly configure, monitor, and diagnose the system on the device without the need to connect to an external computer. This is extremely convenient for quick on-site debugging and troubleshooting.
External display unit (optional)
For scenarios that require a more intuitive interface, such as DP operations, DPS display units can be optionally selected. This unit adopts a graphical interface optimized for DP operation, which can clearly display satellite status, position quality, calibration source and other information. It is suitable for installation on the driver's cab or DP operation console.
Rich communication interfaces
Serial ports: 3 RS-232/422 (including 2 NMEA outputs and 1 RTCM input), supporting electrical isolation and adapting to the electrical environment of ships.
Ethernet/LAN: 1, supporting networked data output and remote management.
USB ports: 3, used for easy software upgrades and data exports.
Antenna configuration
The system comes standard with three types of antennas, each designed for different signals:
GNSS antenna: receives GPS/GLONASS/Galileo/Beidou signals.
IALA antenna: receives differential beacon signals.
Spotbeam antenna: receives L-band Seastar G4 calibration signal.
All antennas adopt a sealed design to adapt to harsh marine environments.

Application scenarios
Dynamic Positioning (DP) Assignment
For DP 1/2 class vessels, DPS 114 can serve as one of the main positioning sensors, providing meter or decimeter level position references. In conjunction with Seastar G4 services, high precision can be maintained even in deep waters far from the coast, supporting precise dynamic positioning of drilling vessels, pipeline laying vessels, and platform support vessels.
Offshore Engineering and Investigation
In underwater pipeline surveys, underwater robot (ROV) positioning, and dredging operations, sub meter level position accuracy can significantly improve work efficiency and data quality. The multi constellation capability of DPS 114 remains reliable under bridges or near platforms.
Ship Navigation
As a standard navigation sensor, DPS 114 provides precise latitude, longitude, heading, and speed information for ECDIS, radar, and autopilot. SBAS calibration is provided for free, reducing operating costs.
Ports and waterways
The IALA beacon receiving capability enables reliable differential correction in major ports and waterways worldwide, ensuring safe entry and exit of ships.
Buoys and offshore facilities
In long-term unmanned situations, the stability and remote management capability (SNMP) of DPS 114 facilitate integration into monitoring systems to report location and health status in real-time.
