OMRON 3G3MV-A4055 SYSDRIVE Compact Inverter

The OMRON 3G3MV-A4055 is a high-performance compact frequency inverter from the SYSDRIVE 3G3MV series, designed for three-phase motor control in industrial automation applications. This 5.5 kW inverter operates on 400V AC power and represents OMRON's first compact inverter incorporating open-loop vector control technology, which delivers exceptional torque performance at low speeds. The 3G3MV-A4055 delivers 150% of rated motor torque at an output frequency of just 1 Hz, enabling demanding applications requiring high starting torque and precise low-speed regulation.

Electrical and Power Specifications

The 3G3MV-A4055 operates on three-phase input voltage of 380 to 480 V AC at 50/60 Hz, with a rated input current of 19.6 A. The rated output voltage is three-phase 380 to 480 V AC, with the output voltage limited to not exceed the input voltage. The inverter incorporates a built-in braking unit, though external braking resistors must be selected separately for applications requiring dynamic braking. The unit weighs approximately 3.5 kg, making it suitable for panel mounting where space and weight considerations are important.

For default V/f pattern settings, the middle output frequency voltage parameter (n015) and minimum output frequency voltage parameter (n017) are set to 20 V for this 400-V-class model. These settings can be adjusted through the inverter's parameter configuration to optimize motor performance for specific applications.

Enclosure and Environmental Ratings

The 3G3MV-A4055 features a closed wall-mounting specification conforming to IP20/NEMA1 protection standards. This enclosure rating provides protection against solid objects larger than 12.5 mm and offers basic protection for indoor installation environments. The inverter operates within an ambient temperature range of -10 to 40°C for standard closed-wall mounting configurations. For higher temperature environments up to 50°C, the top and bottom covers can be removed to convert the unit to a panel-mounting model with IP00 rating, allowing adequate ventilation for increased heat dissipation.

Advanced Control Features

The open-loop vector control function sets the 3G3MV-A4055 apart from simpler V/f control inverters. This control method independently manages flux and torque current vectors within the motor using an internal motor model, providing superior speed regulation and dynamic response without requiring an encoder feedback device. The inverter includes a speed search function for detecting and smoothly controlling free-running motors, with adjustable operating time and search level parameters.

Additional advanced features include frequency reference loss detection, which monitors analog frequency reference inputs for sudden changes indicating disconnection, short circuit, or breakdown. When a loss is detected, operation continues at 80% of the frequency reference prior to the change, maintaining process continuity while alerting operators. The inverter also provides an accumulated operating time monitor that calculates and stores power-on time or run time, useful for maintenance scheduling and equipment lifecycle management.

Input and Output Functions

The 3G3MV-A4055 offers extensive multifunction input and output capabilities. Up to seven multifunction inputs can be configured for various control functions, including an inverter overheating warning input that displays a nonfatal oH3 fault when triggered, useful for connecting thermal contacts for peripheral overheating detection. Multifunction outputs can be assigned for frequency reference loss signaling and other status indications.

The inverter includes input open-phase detection that monitors the AC input supply for phase loss conditions, protecting both the inverter and connected motor from damage due to unbalanced power conditions. The comprehensive set of protective features includes overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, undervoltage protection, overload protection, and overtemperature protection, ensuring reliable operation and extended equipment life.

The OMRON 3G3MV-A4055 is suitable for applications including conveyors, fans, pumps, mixers, extruders, and other machinery requiring variable speed control. Its combination of open-loop vector performance, compact size, and robust protection features makes it a versatile solution for OEMs and system integrators seeking reliable motor control in industrial environments.
