ABB EK370-40-11 3-Pole Contactor for Motor Control and Power Switching

Product Overview

The ABB EK370-40-11 is a three-pole contactor designed for controlling industrial motors, lighting, and heating loads. It is part of ABB's EK series, which offers compact dimensions and high switching reliability. The contactor features a 220-230 V AC 50/60 Hz coil and is rated for continuous current suitable for applications up to moderate horsepower. The EK370-40-11 is often used as a motor starter component when paired with an overload relay, or as a line contactor for power distribution. Key Features of EK370-40-11

The contactor has three main contacts (normally open) rated for AC-3 duty (motor starting) at a current rating typical for 37 kW at 400V (refer to nameplate). It includes one normally open auxiliary contact and one normally closed auxiliary contact (40-11 designation). The contactor is designed for screw terminal connections, with protection against finger touch. The coil consumes low VA (hold-in), reducing heat generation. Functional Description

When the coil is energized by applying 220-230 V AC, the electromagnet pulls the armature, closing the main contacts and auxiliary NO contact (the NC contact opens). When the coil is de-energized, a spring returns the armature, opening the contacts. The arc chutes quench arcs when switching inductive loads. The contactor can be used in motor starters, capacitor banks, and lighting contactor panels. Auxiliary contacts can be used for interlocking or status feedback to a PLC.
