Allen-Bradley 1774-P1 Power Supply for 1774 Programmable Controller Systems

The Allen-Bradley 1774-P1 is a dedicated power supply module designed for the legacy 1774 PLC platform. It converts 120/220V AC input to regulated 5V DC at 50A for the processor, backplane, and I/O chassis. This robust linear supply provides stable power even under fluctuating line conditions, suitable for heavy industrial environments.

Electrical Specifications

Input voltage: selectable 100-132V AC or 200-264V AC, 47-63Hz. Output: 5V DC ±5%, 50A (250W maximum). Ripple and noise<50mV peak-to-peak. Holdup time 20ms at full load. Overvoltage protection set at 6.2V, overcurrent protection at 55A (automatic recovery). Efficiency 75% typical.

PLC System Integration

The 1774-P1 powers the PLC processor module (e.g., 1774-LP3) and up to 8 I/O chassis via the backplane expansion cable. It includes a front-panel fuse holder (slow-blow 8A for 120V, 4A for 240V) and an AC power indicator LED. A remote shutdown input allows external emergency stop systems to cut power to the logic.

Applications

Used in original 1774-based automation systems for automotive, material handling, and process industries. Although newer PLCs exist, many plants still operate 1774 controllers; the 1774-P1 remains essential for replacement or system expansion. The high 50A capacity can power legacy I/O modules like 1774-IA, -OB, etc.

UL listed, CSA certified. Input-to-output isolation 1500V AC. Designed for pollution degree 2 environment. Compliant with IEC 61131-2. The power supply has a proven mean time between failures exceeding 200,000 hours.

Installation Notes

Requires adequate ventilation clearance (50mm top/bottom). Use copper conductors only, torque terminals 1.2 Nm. Always discharge capacitors before servicing. For system upgrade, adapters are available to convert 1774-P1 output to modern 1771 backplanes.
