B&R X20AI4632 Analog Input Module 4 Channel

The B&R X20AI4632 is a 4-channel analog input module belonging to the X20 system, a modular I/O platform for industrial automation. This module supports both voltage and current signals on a per-channel basis, with a resolution of 16 bits including sign. It is designed for high-precision measurement of sensors such as pressure transmitters, potentiometers, thermocouples (with external reference), and position feedback devices.

Input Specifications

Each of the four channels is independently configurable via software (automation Studio) for:

  • Voltage: ±10 V, 0–10 V, ±5 V, 0–5 V (input impedance > 1 MΩ).

  • Current: 0–20 mA, 4–20 mA (input impedance 250 Ω).

Resolution: 16 bits (0.003% of full scale for voltage, 0.0015% for current). Conversion time per channel: 1 ms (with filter), adjustable down to 250 µs for fast scanning. Accuracy: ±0.1% of full scale at 25°C, ±0.2% over full temperature range. The module includes a 24-bit sigma-delta converter with digital filtering (50/60 Hz rejection).

Diagnostics and Overvoltage Protection

Each channel provides comprehensive diagnostics:

  • Wire break detection (for 4–20 mA and 0–20 mA).

  • Short circuit detection (voltage mode).

  • Overrange/underrange monitoring (user programmable limits).

  • Sensor supply monitoring (external 24 V).

Inputs are protected against 30 VDC continuous overvoltage and ESD ±8 kV (contact). The module has galvanic isolation between the field side and the X2X bus (500 V).

Channel Status LEDs and Wiring

Each channel has a bi-color LED (green = normal, red = error). A bus status LED indicates X2X communication. Wiring is via 12-pin spring-clamp terminal block (included), accepting 0.2–1.5 mm² wires. The terminal is removable for easy replacement. Shield connection is integrated via a dedicated shield clamp on the module housing.

Power Consumption and Bus Interface

The X20AI4632 draws 50 mA from the X2X bus power (+5 V) and requires an external 24 VDC for the analog supply (US) – typical 30 mA plus sensor power. The module is hot-swappable and automatically configured by the X20 CPU. Maximum power dissipation: 2.5 W. The X2X bus operates at 100 Mbit/s deterministic.

Operating temperature: -25°C to +60°C (horizontal mounting), derate to +50°C for vertical. Storage: -40°C to +85°C. Humidity: 5% to 95% non-condensing. Vibration: 5 g (10–500 Hz), shock 30 g. Protection rating: IP20. Dimensions: 28 mm width x 99 mm height x 80 mm depth. Weight: 90 g.

Configuration and Software

Configuration is performed in Automation Studio (version 4.8+). The user selects each channel’s type, scaling, filter frequency (10 Hz, 50 Hz, 100 Hz, 1 kHz), and diagnostic thresholds. The module supports “store and forward” of configuration, allowing replacement without reprogramming. The process data is mapped as 16-bit integer per channel (scaled to 0–65535 or ±32768).


Calibration and Accuracy

The module is factory calibrated using traceable standards. Recalibration can be performed by B&R service or with a calibration certificate. Long-term drift: less than 0.1% per year. The module includes a self-test function that injects a reference voltage to verify ADC accuracy.

Typical Applications

Used for monitoring tank levels (4–20 mA), air flow (0–10 V), potentiometer position feedback, and load cells (external amplifier needed). It is suitable for HVAC, renewable energy inverters, and process control skids. The 4-channel density fits compact control cabinets.

Compatibility and Ordering
