OMRON CS1G-CPU44H Ver. 4.1 CPU Unit PLC

The OMRON CS1G-CPU44H Ver. 4.1 is a high-end CPU unit within the CS1 series programmable logic controller family. This version 4.1 firmware provides enhanced instruction execution, larger memory capacity, and improved communication capabilities. The CPU is designed for medium to large scale control applications such as automotive assembly lines, packaging systems, and material handling equipment, offering high reliability and easy integration with OMRON’s CX-One software suite.

Processing Power

The CS1G-CPU44H uses a 32-bit RISC processor with a basic instruction execution time of 0.02 microseconds (LD instruction). Application instructions (arithmetic, compare) execute in 0.08 to 0.4 µs. The maximum scan time for a full 40K-step program is typically 2 ms. The CPU supports both cyclic and scheduled task execution (up to 288 tasks). Interrupt response time is 30 µs (external interrupt).

Memory Architecture

  • User program memory: 40,000 steps (RAM, battery backed).

  • Data memory (DM): 64,000 words (32K words general + 32K words extended).

  • Extended data memory (EM): 64,000 words (4 banks of 16K each).

  • I/O memory (CIO): 6,144 bits (inputs 0000–0999, outputs 1000–1999).

  • Internal relays (WR): 16,000 bits.

  • Holding relays (HR): 8,000 bits (retentive).

  • Timers/counters (T/C): 4,096 each (16-bit).


Communication Ports

The CPU includes two onboard ports: a peripheral port (9-pin D-sub, TTL level) for programming console or CX-Programmer connection, and an RS-232C port (9-pin D-sub) configurable for host link, no-protocol, or NT link (to OMRON HMIs). Both ports support baud rates up to 115.2 kbps. For advanced networking, the CPU can host a CS1W-ETN21 Ethernet module or Controller Link module without backplane limitation.

Version 4.1 Enhancements

Compared to earlier revisions, version 4.1 includes:

  • New instructions: Floating-point math (SIN, COS, SQRT), PID with auto-tuning.

  • Increased number of file registers (up to 32,000 words).

  • Support for SD memory card (CS1W-SD01) with FAT16 file system.

  • Improved online editing (32 simultaneous modifications).

I/O and Expansion Capabilities

The CS1G-CPU44H can control up to 2,560 local I/O points using a combination of CS1 series I/O units, special I/O units, and remote I/O racks. Maximum number of units per CPU: 80 (in up to 5 expansion racks). The CPU also supports up to 128 SYSMAC BUS remote I/O slaves. High-speed counters (2 channels, 50 kHz) and pulse outputs (2 axes, 20 kHz) are built-in.

Battery and Memory Protection

Lithium battery (CJ1W-BAT01) retains all retentive memory for 5 years at 25°C. Battery low detection is indicated by a front LED and can be read as a system flag (A402.09). The CPU includes a flash memory backup for the user program and parameter area, allowing automatic restoration after battery replacement. Real-time clock (RTC) with 3-minute power-loss hold via supercapacitor.

Diagnostics and LEDs

Front panel LEDs: RUN (green), ERR/ALM (red), COMM (yellow for peripheral port), BKUP (yellow for memory backup), and INH (yellow for output disable). Self-diagnosis functions include CPU failure detection, I/O bus verification, memory integrity test, and watchdog timer (WDT adjustable 0.1–1000 ms). Error history buffer stores up to 100 events with timestamp.

Environmental and Physical Data

Dimensions: 130 mm height, 56 mm width, 100 mm depth. Weight: 0.45 kg. Operating temperature: 0 to 55°C; storage: -20 to 75°C. Vibration: 2 g (10–150 Hz). Power consumption: 0.8 A from +5 V backplane. Conformal coating available (suffix -C).


Software Compatibility

Fully compatible with CX-Programmer version 9.0 or higher, and CX-One package. Programming languages: ladder diagram, structured text, and sequential function chart (SFC). The CPU supports function blocks (FB) and structured data types. Online change and forced set/reset are allowed. Password protection (8-character) for program and data.

Typical Applications

The CS1G-CPU44H is deployed in high-speed sorting machines, injection molding machines, and water treatment plants. Its large DM capacity suits recipe management. When paired with Ethernet/IP modules, it acts as a master for OMRON NX series I/O.
