Omron C40P-EDT1-D C Series P Type PLC

The Omron C40P-EDT1-D is a compact programmable logic controller from the SYSMAC C Series P Type family, providing an all-in-one solution for small to medium industrial control applications. This integrated controller combines CPU, memory, power supply, and I/O in a single housing, reducing installation complexity and panel space requirements. The C40P-EDT1-D offers 24 DC inputs and 16 transistor outputs, accepting 24 VDC field device signals and providing high-speed switching capability for controlling DC loads, solenoids, and indicator lamps.

Functional Overview

The C40P-EDT1-D executes user-written ladder logic programs stored in RAM, with battery backup for memory retention during power interruptions. The CPU cyclic scan reads the status of the 24 DC inputs, executes the user program logic, and writes results to the 16 transistor outputs. Timers, counters, internal relays, and data memory registers are updated during the scan according to program execution. The controller supports both simple relay replacement tasks and more complex control sequences involving temporary storage and arithmetic computations.

Compatibility and System Expansion

The C40P-EDT1-D is compatible with the C Series P Type expansion units, including analog timer units, analog I/O units, and I/O link units. Up to six expansion units can be added to increase I/O capacity to 120 points. The PLC also supports connection to a handheld programming console for on-site program editing without a PC. The built-in communication interface enables connection to host computers and operator interface terminals.

Installation begins with panel mounting using the provided base plate. Connect 24 VDC power to the appropriate power terminals. Field devices are wired to the DC input terminals. Output loads are connected to the transistor output terminals, observing polarity for DC loads. Programming can be performed using a handheld programmer or SYSMAC Support Software (SSS) running on a PC connected via the peripheral port. After program validation, the application can be stored on EPROM for permanent storage.

Maintenance and Reliability

The C40P-EDT1-D requires minimal maintenance. The battery supporting the RAM should be inspected annually and replaced as needed. Transistor outputs have no mechanical wear, providing extended service life under normal operating conditions compared to relay-based output designs. Self-diagnostic functions include CPU watchdog monitoring, power interruption detection, and program memory verification. Status LEDs provide immediate indication of system status.
