OMRON CJ1W-AD081-V1 8-Channel Analog Input Unit for CJ Series PLCs

The OMRON CJ1W-AD081-V1 is a high-density analog input module designed for the CJ series programmable logic controllers. This exceptional unit accepts up to eight analog signals from a single module, substantially reducing the rack space required for analog monitoring compared to lower-density alternatives. The CJ1W-AD081-V1 is ideal for applications requiring numerous analog sensor connections, including temperature monitoring, pressure sensing, flow measurement, and position feedback in manufacturing and process control environments.

Analog Input Specifications

The CJ1W-AD081-V1 provides eight independent analog input channels, each configurable for voltage or current input signals to accommodate diverse sensor types. Compatible voltage input ranges include 0 to 5 V, 1 to 5 V, 0 to 10 V, and -10 to +10 V. For current inputs, the module accepts 4 to 20 mA signals, commonly used in industrial process instrumentation and long-distance signal transmission applications. This voltage/current flexibility ensures compatibility with virtually all standard industrial analog sensors and transmitters without requiring separate signal conditioners.

The resolution is configurable at 1/4000 or 1/8000, providing up to 13-bit equivalent conversion precision for accurate measurement even with small signal variations. When high resolution is required, the slower conversion time of 0.25 ms per point is acceptable; when faster throughput is needed, the 1/4000 resolution provides 1 ms conversion time per point. The typical voltage accuracy at 25°C is 0.2% of full scale, while current accuracy is 0.4% of full scale, ensuring reliable measurement throughout the production environment.

Advanced Analog Processing Functions

The CJ1W-AD081-V1 integrates numerous data processing functions that reduce CPU load and simplify programming. Line disconnection detection identifies sensor wiring failures or broken transmitters, allowing the system to respond appropriately when a measurement becomes unavailable. This detection prevents process control based on erroneous data from failed sensors.

Input signal averaging across multiple samples smooths out electrical noise, reducing measurement variation in electrically noisy environments. Peak value holding captures maximum input values over programmable time periods, useful for monitoring transient events or measuring maximum pressures during machine cycles. Offset and gain adjustment allows precise calibration of the module to account for sensor tolerances, wiring resistance, and other system variations, ensuring accurate measurement despite component variations.

Scaling functionality directly converts raw analog data into engineering units (such as degrees Celsius, bar, liters per minute) within the module, eliminating ladder logic calculation requirements and reducing scan time impact. This built-in intelligence simplifies application programming and improves code maintainability.

Installation and Configuration

The CJ1W-AD081-V1 mounts directly into CJ-series CPU racks or expansion racks, occupying a standard CJ Special I/O Unit slot. The module uses screw-type terminal blocks for secure field wiring connections, with external connections made at the front face for easy access during installation. Input signal range selection per channel is configured through software settings in the CX-Programmer or through DM parameter configuration. The 5 VDC current consumption is 0.42 A, typical for CJ-series I/O modules.

Integration with CJ Systems

The CJ1W-AD081-V1 communicates with CJ1G-CPU, CJ1H-CPU, CJ2M-CPU, and CJ2H-CPU series controllers through the CJ backplane bus.
