With a three-pole configuration and a 150-ampere continuous current rating, the HFD3150 offers a compact yet powerful solution for protecting branch circuits, feeders, and motor circuits from the destructive effects of electrical faults.

Thermal-Magnetic Trip Characteristics

The core functionality of the HFD3150 lies in its sophisticated thermal-magnetic trip unit. This dual-action mechanism provides comprehensive protection against two distinct types of electrical events. The thermal element utilizes a bi-metallic strip that reacts to long-term overcurrent conditions, such as an overloaded motor or a circuit drawing slightly more than its rated capacity. Conversely, the magnetic element provides instantaneous protection against high-magnitude short circuits, ensuring that the circuit is cleared within milliseconds to prevent damage to downstream equipment and conductors.

Interrupting Ratings and Voltage Versatility

Rated for up to 600VAC, the EATON HFD3150 is capable of operating in a wide variety of industrial power environments. One of its defining features is its high interrupting capacity. In systems where significant fault current levels are possible, the HFD3150 can safely interrupt currents up to 65kA at 240VAC and 25kA at 480VAC. This ensures that the breaker remains a reliable safety barrier even in high-energy electrical distribution centers.

Mechanical Design and Durability

The molded case of the HFD3150 is constructed from high-grade, glass-reinforced polyester, providing superior dielectric strength and mechanical robustness. The internal contacts are designed to resist pitting and erosion, maintaining low contact resistance over the lifecycle of the device. The toggle handle provides clear status indication—On, Off, or Tripped—allowing maintenance personnel to quickly identify the state of the circuit during inspections.

Compliance and Installation Flexibility

The EATON HFD3150 is fully compliant with UL 489 and CSA standards, ensuring it meets the safety requirements for industrial control panels in North America. Its compact physical footprint allows for high-density mounting in panelboards and switchgear. Terminal lugs are designed for easy wiring with both copper and aluminum conductors, providing electrical contractors with the flexibility needed for various site requirements.
