Mitsubishi GT2512 Series HMI Touch Screen

The Mitsubishi GT2512-STBA and GT2512-STBD are 12.1-inch graphic operation terminals from the GOT2000 series of HMIs. These panels feature a TFT LCD display with SVGA resolution (800 × 600 pixels) and 65,536 colors. The STBA model is powered by AC (100-240 V), while the STBD model operates on 24 V DC, offering flexibility for different control cabinet configurations. The GT2512 series delivers high performance for machine operation, process monitoring, and data management in industrial automation.

Display Specifications

The 12.1-inch TFT LCD provides a display size of 246 mm (width) × 184.5 mm (height). SVGA resolution (800 × 600 dots) allows clear rendering of detailed graphics, trend charts, and alphanumeric text. Standard font displays: 50 characters × 37 lines for 16-dot font, or 66 characters × 50 lines for 12-dot font. Display colors: 65,536 colors. Brightness is adjustable to 32 levels. Backlight type: white LED, not user-replaceable, with typical life of approximately 60,000 hours at 25°C ambient temperature and 50% display intensity. Touch panel type: analog resistive film. Mechanical life: 1 million touches or more under 0.98 N operating force.

  • 65,536 display colors with 32-level brightness adjustment

  • Analog resistive touch panel with glove operation support

  • AC power (GT2512-STBA) or DC 24 V (GT2512-STBD) options

  • Ethernet 100BASE-TX / 10BASE-T for networking

  • RS-232 and RS-422/485 communication ports (D-sub 9-pin)

  • USB host (2 channels, type A) and USB device (mini-B)

  • SD card slot (SDHC compliant, up to 32 GB)

  • Storage ROM: 32 MB, Operation RAM: 80 MB

  • Real-time clock with battery backup (approx. 5 years at 25°C)

  • IP67F front panel protection

Communication and Interfaces

The GT2512 series provides versatile connectivity. The Ethernet port supports 100BASE-TX and 10BASE-T data transfer, enabling communication with Mitsubishi PLCs via MC Protocol, Modbus TCP, and OPC UA. The RS-232 port (D-sub 9-pin male) supports baud rates from 4,800 to 115,200 bps for connection to programming devices, barcode scanners, or printers. The RS-422/485 port (D-sub 9-pin female) supports multi-drop connections to Mitsubishi PLCs, inverters, and third-party Modbus RTU devices. Two USB host ports (USB 2.0, High-Speed 480 Mbps, type A) accept USB flash drives for project transfer, data logging, and screen capture. One USB device port (USB 2.0, mini-B) connects to a PC for programming via GT Works3. The SD card slot accepts SDHC cards up to 32 GB for recipe storage and log data. The side interface accommodates a communication unit or option unit for extended connectivity.

Memory and Performance

The GT2512 series offers 32 MB of storage memory (ROM) for the project file and 80 MB of operation memory (RAM) for runtime execution. The user memory capacity supports complex screens with multiple windows, alarms, and trend graphs. The real-time clock maintains date and time with a precision of ±90 seconds per month at 25°C, powered by a GT11-50BAT lithium battery with approximately 5 years of life at 25°C. The buzzer output is adjustable for tone and length. Front panel LEDs indicate power status (POWER LED) in two colors (blue and orange).

Programming Environment

Screen design and programming are performed using Mitsubishi GT Works3 software. The software provides a library of pre-built objects, alarm management, trend graphs, recipe functions, and script programming. Multi-language support allows up to 32 languages with runtime switching. Data logging to SD card or USB memory is configurable in CSV format. The panel also includes a built-in web server for remote monitoring and diagnostics via standard web browsers. Transparent function allows pass-through programming of the PLC from GT Works3 via the HMI. The software supports simulation mode for offline debugging.

Applications

The GT2512 series is suitable for machine operator stations on CNC machines, packaging lines, material handling systems, and process control skids. The 12.1-inch display provides adequate space for complex layouts with multiple gauges, trend views, alarm banners, and recipe selection screens. The IP67F front protection rating permits installation in wash-down environments such as food and beverage production, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and automotive assembly lines.

Installation and Environmental

Panel cut-out dimensions: 302 mm × 246 mm (typical). External dimensions: 316 mm (W) × 246 mm (H) × 52 mm (D). Weight: approximately 2.0 kg. The AC model (STBA) consumes 100 VA maximum; the DC model (STBD) consumes 38 W maximum (0.46 A at 24 V DC). Operating temperature: 0°C to 55°C. Storage temperature: -20°C to 60°C. Humidity: 10-90% RH non-condensing. Vibration resistance: 2g at 10-25 Hz. The front panel rating is IP67F, while the rear in-control-panel side is rated IP2X. The panel is CE, UL/cUL, KC, and RoHS certified. An optional protective sheet is available for touch panel protection.

Conclusion

The Mitsubishi GT2512-STBA and GT2512-STBD HMIs provide a large, bright display and comprehensive connectivity for industrial operator interface applications. Their SVGA resolution, 65,536 colors, IP67F protection, and flexible power options make them suitable for machine builders and system integrators requiring a reliable HMI for mid-range to high-end automation systems.
