The EPZ-10203 CANPT010W3E is a multi-turn absolute rotary encoder featuring a CANopen interface and an auxiliary analog output. The EPZ-10203 supports the CANopen communication profile CiA DS-406 for encoders. The following PDOs (Process Data Objects) are implemented: position value, speed value, and analog output value. SDOs (Service Data Objects) allow configuration of node ID (1-127), baud rate (10, 20, 50, 125, 250, 500, 800 kbit/s, 1 Mbit/s), scaling parameters, and preset positioning. Heartbeat and node guarding are available for network monitoring. The encoder supports both polled and cyclic PDO transmission.
The auxiliary 0-10V analog output provides a linear mapping from the absolute angle (0 to 360°) to 0-10V. This output can be used as a redundant or backup signal for PLC analog inputs. The output impedance is 500 Ω, and the update rate is 1 ms. The analog range can be scaled via CANopen to any sub-range of the full angle (e.g., 0-90° maps to 0-10V).

The encoder mounts via a 58mm clamping flange (synchro flange) with 3x M4 screws on 47mm bolt circle. The solid shaft is 10mm diameter with a flat key for torque transmission. Maximum mechanical speed is 6000 rpm. Starting torque ≤ 0.01 Nm at 20°C. The shaft seal is double-lipped to maintain IP67. The connector is a 12-pin M23 male radial or axial (depending on variant). Pin assignment (M23-12): Pin 1: +Vs (10-30V DC), Pin 2: GND, Pin 3: CAN_H, Pin 4: CAN_L, Pin 5: CAN_GND, Pin 6: Analog Out (0-10V), Pin 7: Analog GND, Pin 8: not connected. Shield connected to connector shell. For best noise immunity, use a twisted pair cable for CAN signals and a shielded cable for analog output. Terminate CAN bus with 120 Ω resistors at both ends.
Typical applications include crane hoist positioning, wind turbine yaw control, packaging machine registration, and robotics joint feedback. The wide temperature range and IP67 rating make it suitable for outdoor machinery, agricultural equipment, and marine applications. The dual output (CANopen + analog) allows gradual upgrade of legacy systems to fieldbus.
The encoder can be configured using any standard CANopen master or a PC with a USB-to-CAN adapter and free tools like CANopen Magic or simple terminal commands. Parameter settings include node ID, baud rate, counting direction, preset position, scaling factor, and analog output mapping. The configuration is stored in non-volatile EEPROM. Factory defaults: node ID = 1, baud rate = 125 kbit/s, scaling factor = 1:1.
The encoder complies with CE, RoHS, and UL (pending) standards. It meets EMC immunity EN 61000-6-2 and emission EN 61000-6-4. Vibration resistance 10g (10-500 Hz), shock 50g (11 ms). Electrical life 200 million revolutions. Shaft load rating: axial 40 N, radial 60 N.
