MTL 8939-HN Fiber Optic Extender IOTA

The MTL 8939-HN is a fiber optic extender IOTA (I/O Termination Assembly) designed for the Honeywell Series 8 I/O system. It extends the I/O Link communication distance between the S8 C300 controller and remote Series 8 I/O modules by converting electrical signals to optical signals transmitted over multimode fiber. This allows remote I/O cabinets to be placed up to 2 kilometers away from the controller, overcoming the distance limitations of traditional copper cables while providing complete immunity to electromagnetic interference.

Remote I/O Extension

The MTL 8939-HN enables the placement of remote I/O cabinets in locations far from the main controller, reducing cable runs and installation costs. By using fiber optic transmission, the extender provides complete galvanic isolation between the controller and remote I/O, eliminating ground loops and providing immunity to electromagnetic interference common in industrial environments. The extender is typically used in pairs, with one unit connected to the controller and another connected to the remote I/O chassis. The module supports both 62.5/125 µm and 50/125 µm multimode fiber, providing flexibility for different cabling infrastructures.
