The MTL5053 is an isolator/power supply module specifically developed to extend 31.25kbit/s (H1) FOUNDATION Fieldbus networks into hazardous areas. It provides intrinsically safe power and communication to fieldbus devices powered through the signal conductors, complying with Fieldbus Foundation specifications for IS power supply (Type 133). The module allows fieldbus instruments to be located in Zone 0, IIC, T4-6 hazardous areas when suitably certified, enabling process control in the most demanding environments.

The MTL5053 provides the power and communication interface between a safe-area fieldbus segment and hazardous-area fieldbus devices. It limits the energy delivered to the hazardous area to intrinsically safe levels, allowing fieldbus instruments to be installed in Zone 0 (gas) and Zone 20 (dust) environments. The module includes a switch-selectable internal terminator for installations where the safe-area bus length is short. The device must be installed on a horizontal DIN rail mounted on a vertical surface with 10mm spacing between adjacent units for adequate heat dissipation. The MTL5053 complies with Fieldbus Foundation requirements for IS power supply Type 133†.
The MTL5053 is used in FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 segments in oil and gas production facilities, chemical plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing, power generation, and refining. It enables the use of fieldbus instruments in hazardous areas while maintaining the full functionality of the fieldbus network, including device configuration, diagnostics, and real-time process data.
