Omron NS12-TS01 Series HMI Touch Panels

The Omron NS12-TS01 series includes 12.1-inch graphic operation terminals designed for industrial automation. The product line comprises four models: NS12-TS01-ECV2 (with Ethernet and serial), NS12-TS01-V2 (serial only), NS12-TS01B-ECV2 (high-brightness with Ethernet), and NS12-TS01B-V2 (high-brightness serial). All feature a TFT LCD display with 65,536 colors, analog resistive touch panel, and IP65 front protection. They are used in machine control, process monitoring, and data acquisition applications.

Model Variations

  • NS12-TS01-V2: Base model with RS-232C and RS-422A/485. CCFL backlight.

  • NS12-TS01-ECV2: Adds Ethernet (100BASE-TX) port. CCFL backlight.

  • NS12-TS01B-V2: High-brightness (LED backlight) with serial only.

  • NS12-TS01B-ECV2: High-brightness with Ethernet and serial ports.

The -ECV2 models are recommended for networked systems requiring remote monitoring or connection to Omron CJ/CS PLCs via Ethernet. The -B (high-brightness) models are suitable for outdoor or high-ambient-light environments.

Communication and Connectivity

The NS12-TS01 series supports multiple protocols. The RS-232C port can connect to a programming device, barcode scanner, or serial printer. The RS-422A/485 port supports multi-drop communication (up to 32 nodes) to Omron PLCs (CS/CJ/CP series) and third-party Modbus RTU devices. The Ethernet port (on -ECV2 models) supports FINS/TCP, FINS/UDP, and socket service for communication with multiple PLCs simultaneously. The USB host ports allow connection of USB memory sticks for data logging (CSV format) and project upload/download. The USB device port is for programming (NS Designer). The CF card slot can store historical trend data, recipe files, and screen backup.

Programming and Software

The NS12-TS01 series is programmed using NS Series Designer software (CX-Designer can also be used for newer versions). The software provides drag-and-drop of objects (pushbuttons, lamps, numeric displays, trend graphs, alarms, data logs). The panels support multiple languages (up to 32), macros (scripting) for advanced logic, and recipe management. The built-in simulation mode allows offline testing. The software can also convert projects from earlier NS panels (NS8, NS10) to NS12.

Applications

Typical applications include operator stations for packaging machinery, CNC machine tools, material handling systems, and process control skids. The large 12.1-inch display provides ample space for detailed machine status, alarm lists, and production counters. The high-brightness models are used in outdoor kiosks, car wash controls, and agricultural equipment where sunlight readability is essential.


Installation and Wiring

Mount the panel in a panel cut-out (299×224 mm) using the supplied brackets. Ensure the front gasket seals against the enclosure to maintain IP65 rating. Connect 24 V DC power to the terminal block (positive and negative). Connect the PLC to the RS-232C or RS-422A/485 ports using shielded cables. For Ethernet models, use a shielded Cat5e cable. USB and CF card slots are accessible from the front or side. Ground the panel’s FG terminal to the panel ground. The backlight on standard models (CCFL) is user-replaceable; refer to the manual for replacement procedure.

Environmental and Compliance

The NS12-TS01 series is CE and UL listed. It is RoHS compliant. Operating temperature: 0-50°C, storage -20-60°C. Humidity: 35-85% non-condensing. Vibration resistance: 2g (10-55 Hz). The front panel is IP65; the rear requires installation in a control cabinet to maintain IP20.
